The competition is so intense and the skill level must be so high that these girls have to be laser focused and singularly focused on lacrosse to compete at a high D1 level.. stop trolling and giving bad advice. This may be true for a superior elite all around athlete but not for the typical D1 prospect lacrosse player— it doesn’t work like that in any other sports —you have a couple outliers of people that are just all around athletic but otherwise you have to be singularly focused by high school on the sport you want to play in college at the D1 level.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:So if she played another sport that would not hurt her?
I believe the college coaches love multi-sport athletes.

Get noticed Go directly to prospect camps for schools that are on your list. Try to go to 5 winter specific school prospect camps—1 reach 3 target and 2 sure things. Also, have your coach or recruiting coordinator reach out ahead of time to the camps you’re going to alert them that this school is high on your list so it helps your player get into the group that is actually being evaluated and considered at the camp. I talked to a couple of the 2026 moms —high academic and a couple D1 mid range ones that’s what they all suggested.
Fully agree with this - go earlier than you think you need to go. I have a 2027 and she only went to one last fall and by late spring it became clear she was behind the curve. By the time she really started going to camps and ramped up her comms with coaches they already had their lists.
They already have their lists now?

D1 schools have lists of girls they are watching, for sure. Do they have their final list? I mean probably not, but if your DD wants to go D1 then she needs to get on coaches' radars sooner rather than later. The D1 landscape has shifted so much what with roster limits and other changes and will continue to do so. These changes plus the increasing popularity of lacrosse across the country have had an impact on how many athletes coaches recruit.
Parent of 2027 player who is committed to a D1 school. DO NOT read too much into IWLCA profile views right at this point. Many of the schools are gathering email addresses in order to invite your daughter to a $350+ clinic. These clinics are basically fundraisers for the lacrosse programs. Your daughter should be working out, lifting, doing wall ball, getting ready for her high school season right now. This upcoming summer is the most important time for your daughter. Having recently gone through it...my opinion is that Lax For The Cure and G8 (especially) are the tournaments that the coaches will all be at. They will be at the others but those two are the major ones. Once the summer tournament schedules are available your daughter should be emailing coaches letting them know when and where she will be.
I agree that the new roster caps, the portal, and the nation wide popularity of lacrosse all are contributing to making this whole process more difficult to predict. 10 years ago players were not coming from Colorado, California, Florida, etc. Much more competition now for the Maryland and Virginia players. Moving forward most programs will take 8-9 girls (maybe 10) per class since the cap is 38 for teams that have opted in. In years past the classes were probably 10-12. D2 and D3 programs will be recruiting much better players now.
Anonymous wrote:How important is the High School season? My daughter is on a terrible team and it seems like there is only downside to playing for them. She is a Midfielder and last year got injured several times during practice because nobody else really knew how to play.
