This whole thread is so typical lacrosse/private school world....Biff thinks Tad is a jerk/poor sportsman/cheater (pick your choice) and both think the others schools are worse than Hades itself...so Biff’s parents jump in their BMW or Porsche, race to there Country Club and think how they can pull a few strings to somehow get even over crabcakes and skinny martini’s...how typical...

You guys take all this stuff so darn seriously. Prep beat Bullis for the first time since 2015. Good for them. Great win. No excuses. Let it go. Bullis may get another shot; may not. They’ve been in last 3 IAC Finals...they’ll be fine either way.

Enjoy the tourney. Kids are all playing hard and with incredible purpose. Enjoy that part of it parents of players, it ends quickly. And once it’s over, it’s over.

I have a son now in college who went to Landon. He was "recruited" by Bullis, Prep, St. Johns and Gonzaga as he was a multi-sport athlete. We were offered everything from playing time on varsity as a freshman, to financial aid, to starting roles. They all recruit; some schools don't call it that. I never viewed it as a negative either. Not sure what the big deal is. And don't tell me IAC rules...that is a joke.

Many of the best players for Prep are either underclassman or did not go to MD. Bullis' reputation is entirely based on sports...they offer nearly tuition free admission to families who could afford to pay (meaning the rest of the school's families are unfairly burdened). Many of the recruits come in for a year or two and they are gone such as the kid from St Anne's Belfield last year. Noticed there were hardly any Bullis students supporting the lax team in a big game at HOME on SENIOR NIGHT whereas Prep had a big crowd of students supporting their team on the road..big difference in culture

I thought the exact same thing too.

I attended the Landon - Bullis game earlier this Spring and the Landon student section dwarfed the Bullis section.

It does make you wonder about the student culture at the school.

Bulis actually doesn't have to recruit now - lots of kids going there now as transfers going into HS.

But if they do recruit, they don't recruit any more than Landon or Prep. LOL. Prep dwarfs all the IAC schools in terms of total boys. They should win every IAC title in every sport every year.

The pipeline for Prep lacrosse is well-established. Giblin put it in place brick by brick. Catholic kids in K-8 grades target playing there (or Gonzaga) for years ahead of the time they will get to high school. It's sort of a built-in advantage that Prep has.

Landon is it's own source of players with boys picking the sport up in much younger grades.

Bullis, wanting to be competitive in the IAC, has had to take a different route.

Sigh...if you are held back for a year, repeat curriculum and are more mature, doesn't that naturally put you at the top of the Deans List for the younger year?? The defending is admirable and I understand why you would want to defend a decision that you think is best for your kid, but C'mon...looking an adult in the eye as a high school aged kid should not be newsworthy. The jig is up; the MD holdback plan is public and everyone knows the deal no matter where they end up going to HS. As a parent of a child who didn't need to be held back, I love that he learned to compete against older kids and play D1 lacrosse. It is a great source of pride for my son that he figured this out.

As for Prep/MD pipeline, it was on full display last night against Bullis. Lots of MD alums out there for Prep and every one held back at least one year. It paid off for sure, at least if you subscribe to high school athletic years being vital to a kids life path, which clearly some do (not all).. It is up to the kids on the other teams to figure out how to compete and beat the holdbacks. What it is not is parents complaining about it. Let your kids figure out how to beat them!

MD is a nonprofit school. It is not "OWNED" by anyone.
MD 8th grade teams have been known to compete against HS JV or freshman teams. So I'm guessing they don't want 7th grade teams to compete against other 8th grade teams because it is not worthwhile. Not because they will lose.

It is a joke academically. It's school motto is actually, "Work hard, play hard, pray hard, but most of all, be a good guy!" Seriously.

My son attends Mater Dei. He did reclassify, but it was probably the best thing we ever did for him in terms of emotional maturity. Academically, it is NO joke. In sixth grade, he has 2 - 3 hours of homework a night—sometime more. Unlike MCPS, they have semester exams. Yes, the son of Edward Bennett Williams is President of the school, but I am not sure why that is relevant. Families who send their boys to Mater Dei often do so because they see the school as a gateway to Prep, GZ or Saint Johns (usually, in that order). I could see my son attending any of the aforementioned high schools, but I could not see him anywhere other than at Mater Dei. He absolutely loves it there.

I'm sure he loves having teammates all 1-2 years older than the opposition. Be a good guy!

MD also refuses to have their 7th graders play 8th graders at other schools when they ask so the teams can compete at the same level.
