As with all instructional pathways, there may be individual cases in which students follow a different trajectory based on student data and discussions between schools and families. This is our current practice. What is the math trajectory for kids woth normal math level? I am not familiar with mcps math trajectory.

Normal math is Math 5 in 5th, Math 6 in 6th, 7 in 7th, 8 in 8th, and Algebra 1 in 9th.

It's also fairly common to do an accelerated 6/7 in 6th and 7/8 in 7th (called AMP 6+ and AMP 7+) and start Algebra 1 in 8th. That varies a lot by school, though-- at some that faster pathway is very common for any kid with a solid grasp on math, while at other middle schools it's very rare to take that path if the child didn't take compacted math in ES.

This isn’t fair to the students or teachers.
