8 democrats want to make deal to end it, in addition to the other 3 that already voted for the CR.

The betting market has the over/under at Nov 15 with less than 20% of betters thinking it will go into Dec, so your coworkers are pretty pessimistic.

The betting market I see is looking well beyond Nov. 15th with a target of December 2nd.

30 minutes Potomac to DC this morning with $15 parking at garage. Something positive about the shutdown.

Not necessarily. Each furlough letter lasts 30 days. However, the furlough could end earlier than the 29th.

People have larger anxieties these days - inflation, housing unaffordability, layoffs, etc. People are fatigued with what a clown show the government has become in general.

In the sense that nothing was going to unlock until after tomorrow's election, yes. Democrats were not going to fold before the election, because their base is pissed.

Maybe they will try to claim some kind of win from the elections that let's them accept the existing CR, but it's hard to say. Republicans can't really be expecting to win the major elections tomorrow but maybe it will be enough of a blowout that they are moved to negotiate, dunno.

I think either it gets resolved this week before the Senate goes on break, or it's lasting until ATCs and others simply stop coming to work unpaid (which dares the administration to illegally pay them rather than reopen Congress). More than half of federal employees are going in every day without a paycheck and people simply can't sustain that much longer.

Who knows. It appears the President has said they should keep voting on the same thing, get rid of the filibuster, and not give anything inch.

The Senate has a vote today on the same CR, I think.

It’s not on the calendar for today as far as I can tell and news outlets say there’s no vote today on cloture.

It is not their job to do that.

You failed 5th grade???? Republicans have the Majority in both Houses. Dems don't have to do a dam thing.

And BS you are a Democrat.

Different democrat here. And whether you like it or not, it’s Dem no votes that have blocked opening the government at this point.

There are multiple ways to “open the government”. One way is for the Republicans — the majority party in both the House and the Senate — to vote to open it. Heck, the House hasn’t even met as a group to discuss it in weeks. The Republicans would like their plan to withhold food benefits from people who need them to force the Democrats to stop pushing for affordable healthcare. Starve or suffer. The Republican Party of “family values” is spending our tax dollars on breaks for the already wealthy. That’s not what most Americans want or value.

I’m sure you’re trying, but it’s obvious that you’re lying about your party affiliation. Details matter.

No, my party affiliation is stated accurately. I’m just not a hyper partisan like you.

There is no Republican Party it’s party of Putin liars and criminals anti American

And what does that have to do with some democrats saying the Dems should vote to open the government?

Nothing.

No matter what that op says, I did write my senators for them to vote to open and I AM a Maryland Dem. It is time to reopen.

Me too. I called both senators and told them my opinion. I ask what is their exit strategy. Their staffs have no acceptable answers. I am dumbfounded. The democrats lost this battle and federal employees and the American people are the ones that are suffering. It is disgraceful that federal employees are in food pantry lines and do not have funds to pay their bills. It has been over a month, they need to reopen this week.

Is this true though? The American people clearly don’t give two craps about federal employees but are somewhat concerned about the government shutdown. The Republicans control the government and this looks pretty bad for them. Overall, despite the lack of organization this is a win for the democrats. It’s at federal employee expense that’s all.

DP but are people concerned about the shutdown? I only had one friend out of DC area who asked me how I was doing with the shutdown. I am not sure others even know what is going on.

People who need SNAP and insurance are absolutely concerned

Yes. Those that fly absolutely know what’s going on. And recent polling shows majority of Americans disapprove of current administrations handling of the government and blame the party in power for the shutdown.
