Successfully trolling Trump in 2025 is very easy to do. Winning a national election as a politician from California is not. It would take an Obama or Reagan caliber of politician to persevere through the stigma of Californian politicians in our mid-western/blue collar swing states. Newsom simply doesn't have that kind of widespread likability.

Having no leader is better than having a leader who ruins the election chances of their party's politicians running in down ticket races. Lastly, the inevitable and unshakable association with Biden is what did in Harris. No Dem nominee had a chance in 2024 after Biden's unprecedented collapse; even if they didn't have the unshakable VP association.
