And kids will take it.

We know kids that took offers late summer.

Ivy WL are different. There aren’t relatively that many on them and the kids on them are interchangeable with those accepted. It’s a “just not enough spots”. You might have out if 50k applicants under 1k on a WL and sometimes none to 100 or so are admitted,

The school that wants you trope is ego. A kid if that caliber has many many options and anyone would love to have them.

Agree. They need to wrap it up. Clearly they have enrolled their classes. Call it a day and let the kids fully move on. YES, I know kids should be moving on anyway but several top20 schools sent an email out a week or two ago: "are you still interested?, If yes, let us know here"" That is just not cool. Not cool at all.

DD got an email from UMich yesterday that the waitlist closed (LAS). Univ of Wash had accepted her from their waitlist Tuesday. (She declined, set on a school that wants her).

College Confidential posters have been calling (or having their counselors call) Harvard and they say that some Harvard staff members are saying or implying that they will take a group of kids off the waitlist in mid July. No one knows how many.

Many. That's why so many waitlists are still active. Some international students are on the fence about coming, and may decide late. Others won't be able to get their visas processed.

Even if visas are processed, I could see international students pulling out because of the political situation. There’s a story going viral of a tourist from the Netherlands being detained and harassed because he had a meme of JD Vance saved somewhere on his phone. I could see parents being nervous about sending their kids here if a stupid meme gets you in trouble.


But are kids really going to pull out of HPY, etc? I really doubt they'll do it unless they feel their lives are at risk. Deadlines for requesting gap years have passed.

I bet universities are keeping waitlists open in case some sort of NEW visa game is playing by the Trump administration between now and August.
Their enrollments are set right now but they have no way of knowing what new trick might be coming down the pike.
Unfortunately all the waitlisted kids are along for the ride and don't get the usual closure of "waitlist is now officially closed" that is given in other years.


Universities should make final decisions by the end of this month. Maybe mid-July at the latest if they really need to.


Yes, but it's very quickly getting difficult to catch up anyone who comes off a waitlist. Housing assignments have been determined, class schedules set, health insurance deadlines passed, placement exams given, etc.

Based on why I just heard on the news, there is an injunction that prevents the Trump admin from kicking out international students at Harvard. However, this could change at any time. I am surprised there has not been a mass withdrawal of international students from Harvard. Or maybe there has, and the school is just waiting a little longer to see how it plays out before going to the waitlist. I bet next year will be a great year to try to transfer to Harvard.
