Johns Hopkins has $13B in reserves. Why do they need taxpayers money?
Maybe because there is research that is in the public interest and it won't happen if there isn't government input? Maybe the private sector won't fund anything that is not applied. Basic research won't happen.

Public research is in the public domain. What are you even talking about?

Josh Ripp, a retired US Navy officer who voted for Donald Trump, was fired from his engineer job of flying into hurricanes for NOAA.
"He backed Trump due to the president's commitment to the rule of law, he said, but now Mr Ripp thinks Trump is flouting the correct procedures for reducing the federal workforce.
'We're very good stewards of the money we're given by the government. We're not out here committing waste or anything like that,' Mr Ripp said."

I would dearly love to hear his arguments supporting “the president’s commitment to the rule of law.”

Ten of 13 participants from this battleground, auto-industry state bordering Canada said what they're seeing isn't what they thought they were voting for — and they're worried Trump's approach may hurt their pocketbooks.
Erratic," "frightening," "disruptive" and "dictator" were among the words they used to describe their concerns.
They knew this was Trump when they voted for him in November. What Donnie is doing now is not a surprise to no one. They need self-reflection and own the real reason they voted for chaos over the Blasian woman who guaranteed steady and boring growth for the US
