Yes, DS did get Honors College for UVM. With SAT less than above.

No honors for my DC: 33 ACT (equivalent to 1480) and also 4.0 unweighted...also got $18K a year. From what I understand, the Honors College invitation is based on a more holistic review, including intended major, geography, etc.

College of Wooster, with merit aid that made it essentially half-price (without requiring extraordinary stats). Very thoughtful program, great undergraduate mentored research and senior projects, CTCL (don't bring out the haters here). Glad to have one option without seeing final semester grades.

Is she applying anywhere else? UMW and SMCM together make sense and then Harvard?

Since DC hasn't started there yet we're no experts, but the kid's reasons for applying were
--Interested in studying environmental science and they have a strong program in that
--DC is outdoorsy and loves the setting--easy access to mountains, lake, hiking, canoeing, snow sports
--The size felt right; DC hated the small more isolated SLACs and strongly wanted a bigger school, but UVM is still pretty self contained and way smaller than someplace like Michigan
--just liked the vibe and tour guide

additional parental reasons:
--With DC TAG, we knew we could afford it (unlike some privates where it would depend on aid package)
--Blue state, high vax rates. We did not absolutely rule out red states but have little enthusiasm for DC going to places where many students are unvaccinated, COVID safety is flouted, Trumpian legislatures are gutting their own higher ed systems, etc
--Even tho it is not super close, we CAN drive there, or DC can take the train, which makes a bit more convenient than somewhere you have to fly

My DS has similar reasons for liking UVM. Wanted somewhere he could get merit aid, didn't want a competitive atmosphere, not too small/not too big, close to outdoor activities. It's at the top of his list but he has to hear from a few other schools.
