The giving away of 2 past bookclub copies tells me (1) she's desperate to perform for Tyler and (2) her bookclub is declining for them to have enough extra copies of random past books--they basically have the headcount of members plus a projection of new members and maybe they've been overshooting projections or have attrition.

Along with narcissism goes attachment disorder. Those suffering from a.d. always go for new people, strangers even, over those they are familiar with. It's like a vampire. They always need the fix of a new person admiring and "loving" them.

Jen does have some real talent. I'll be the first to say it. She's a funny writer. That, to me, is her true creative strength.

I would actually be interested in seeing what she could do along that path. Maybe a funny, breezy humorous travelog. Or an effort at a funny novel about mommy blogging drawing from her own experiences.

I could also see her being an college instructor on publishing in the social media age. She would probably do well at that.

But the stuff shes doing now? It's a dead end for sure and completely not sustainable. Plus it's probably terrible for her spirit and mental health.

These wannabe influencers see strangers as their "friends." It boggles my mind. I had an ex SIL who was a "health coach" (gag) influencer and she would dump her daughter at my MIL's house, go on a trip, and then post a million photos with all her new "friends" with nary a photo of my MIL to thank her for watching her bratty kid. They are users.

1000x to the poster who referenced her local orbit being relieved that Me Camp takes Jen away for some time.

Also, I assume Caleb's bid to pursue a military career is over? I just saw my oldest off to basic training today and feel bad that Caleb isn't doing this, because it would be a great opportunity and challenge for him.

Can you imagine what Jen privately thinks about the sort of woman would actually join this cruise? A total stranger, someone who's probably having to go into serious debt to go, and probably is leaving behind some kids and or maybe a husband, all for the "honor" of celebrating a has been social media influencer's birthday.

How sad is it to celebrate a milestone 50th birthday on a cruise with a bunch of strangers?

It's like in Succession when Kendall had his big Instagram-ready celebrity birthday party which was a total disaster that ended in tears.

Can't anything be just private and organic and chill and non-exploitive with this one?

I think you are really onto something here. Jen's MeCamps are ways for her to recharge her Narcissistic Supply. She broadcasts where she's going to be so local corneaters can find her for fun "run ins" with all the usual nauseating social media captures. She can feel like a star again.

I imagine a wined-up brassy and super oud Jen turning up at all the "super cute" boutiques and coffee shopes and making an obnoxious scene. fawning over this and that. Most of the proprietors and fellow customers are polite enough to humor her, of course, so she's not brushed off.

Seriously, she is looking at it as an opportunity for everyone to be blessed by her presence rather than a time to rest and refresh. I don't guess there is the tiniest bit of introvert in her!!
