I sat between a man and woman who weren't speaking to each other at first, so I thought they were strangers, too. Eventually, they spoke to each other across me, and I realized they were together. I assume they hoped to have the middle seat open so they could have three seats for two people. It's annoying when people do this.

1) Excuse me, would you mind switching seats with me? You guys seem to be together and I am a bit uncomfortable.

Both of us have objected to the hateful vitriol being pushed towards the overweight passengers based on conjecture. I can't state anything with certainty other than that the blonde woman behaved reprehensibly, because that is on film, and even if those people had angered me I would not have used hateful insulting derogatory language like she did.

PP who was in that situation here. I actually didn’t notice that the people I was sitting with were “big” until I tried to leave for the rest room. What I noticed was that we were surrounded by EMPTY SEATS. Even then the stewardess was very hesitant to let us move. And she refused to let ME move. The “bigger” people had bought bigger seats so they moved but I did not get the feeling that this was a norm. I asked her to let us move and the first answer was NO WAY.

I don’t think I personally would ever use the term fatties (especially because I am one right now anyway) but those obese passengers did nothing remotely kind or respectful. They knowingly put an innocent person in a horrible situation that was incredibly awkward and stress inducing at best, physically painful at worst, and they literally could not have cared less about it.

I think of myself as decent with language (always got straight As in English, etc) and I don’t know that I could have come up with that delicately worded request to the flight attendant that a PP crafted... all while I was exhausted and stressed from travel and furious that I was placed in that situation in the first place. If they had any intention of switching then they would have done that before watching her uncomfortably squash in next to them, and you know it. And even then, she would have been unacceptably squashed on one side.

And there was no guarantee that the flight attendant would have switched her. They allowed those people to hoard in the first place so I could forgive the woman for not believing that they would recognize the problem and switch her. And she only called them pigs when SHE was rudely attacked by other people. Prior to that, she referred to the only as “big”.

Also the blondes words weren't directed to every fat person only the 2 morbidly obese too fat ones.
