I bet you wonder about a lot of crazy stuff. Watch yourself.
My DH is an ER doc and said the same. Why should pp "watch" herself?
Easy. It takes a special kind of crazy to "wonder" something like that. I wouldn't be surprised if that PP has some mental health challenges, either diagnosed or undiagnosed.
When an upper middle class student attending UVA gets sentenced to hard labor in a brutal regime like N Korea, yes, I'd consider attempted suicide to be a very likely possibility.
As opposed to a rich student? Or a poor student?
"Hard Labor" = Horrific Torture
PP here. In the sense that many upper middle class kids (include rich, if you want) haven't been exposed to certain harsh conditions of life. Most poor kids I know have been through enough harships that they have developed more resilience and determination under rough conditions.

Yes, Americans were strongly advised by our government not to travel there. But it's also common sense. I feel for this young man's family, but he is accountable for his actions in traveling there.

So, this young man deserved to die for traveling to a country that has a brutal regime? Just say it if that is what you believe.
No one said he deserved to die. But lots of people get what they don't deserve, and we don't start nuclear wars.
Very few people here have advocated nuclear war. In fact, I believe it is only one angry poster saying this.
But, I do believe our government should do everything they can to work for the release of Americans unjustly detained.
can you explain exactly what "do everything they can to work for the release of Americans unjustly detained" mean? in terms of actions to be taken, especially with a country with which we have no diplomatic relations, we are not friendly with, under sanctions.
do you know exactly what the Obama administration did in the past year? what steps they took? which channels they tried? people here saying that he did nothing, what do they know exactly?
if Trump was so successful, how come NK released only a kid on the brink of death but kept the other three prisoners?
No one knows what Obama did because he didn't do a GD thing.
NK released him because they did not want him to die on NK soil. It's already a lose-lose for them and they know not to make it even worse.
+1,000,000 - Obama is a COWARD.
How do you know that's why NK released him?

Most poor kids aren't tortured, you fool.

Yes I do believe by ignoring his own government guidelines in regards to travel in n Korea , he forfeited his right to be alive .
Do you also believe that a citizen who either ignores or willfully defies police commands also forfeits his right to be alive?
I would view it as a highly possible outcome. Consequently, I would obey their commands.
I would as well. I'm glad to see you are consistent in your beliefs.

This. Thank Barack Obama for doing nothing to get him home.
I don't want the US government to risk other people's lives to rescue people who make foolish decisions.
Please note:
Trump didn't risk anyone's life.
Obama ignored the whole thing.
Trump has nothing to do with his release , he was a vegetable and they just didn't want him to take his last breath in their country
