Not entirely. I have wide leg *expensive* wool pants from the early 90s that were perfectly in style last year. and it was killing me that I gained too much weight with menopause to wear them. One of my nieces regularly wears her grandma's "cruise wear" from the 1970s. And another niece almost just spent $150 at a thrift store to buy almost the exact same gunnesax dress that I was sure was still hanging in the back of a closet somwhere (turned out it wasn't, sadly). I have a high quality wool plaid blazer of my mom from the 1970s that I wear all the time. She probably wore it with a wool skirt and a fussy blouse, whereas I usually wear it with black jeans and a t-shirt, but it's absolutely in style and really well-made, so I'm glad she kept it.
I'm a little sad that I gave away my 1980s leather bomber jacket (that I kept for such a long time), as my daughter or nieces would probably wear it.

Wow before I got to the photo I thought for sure we were going to be looking at a pair of cropped pants, maybe a little higher than in recent years, but yup those are legitimately capris. And they look hideous on Bella Hadid. Nice of her to demonstrate how unflattering they are even on an actual super model, so the civilians out here don't have ponder the trend.

I dry cleaned something for my DD. It looked great on her and I was so excited to see her in it, but it hung untouched in her closet. It wasn't exactly right and she had other things that were less work.

I would kill for pieces—not whole outfits, but PIECES—of Princess Diana’s wardrobe. The entirety of that wardrobe is dated, but good-quality pieces can always work. Always. That’s why celebrities adore vintage items. My daughters already ask about some of my clothes, accessories, and jewelry, and they are way too young.

Except they won't come back in the exact same way -- I bet most of your old capris won't look the same as the new ones being sold, in a way that will be obvious to people (also capris are always unflattering so, why). The better tip is to invest in classic styles that are less subject to the whims of fashion. You can keep a pair of midnight black pants that fit at your waist (neither low nor high rise) and a straight leg, for 40+ years and they won't go in or out of fashion. Limit your trendy items to maybe one or two purchases a year, but mostly buy things that will stand the test of time, and then you won't find yourself with a time capsule closet, hoping cold shoulder tops come back in fashion.
