I would pick UCSD or UNC.

UCSD has a good reputation for science among the UCs.

UNC is the most rah-rah which makes me think extrovert but they have good science graduate programs.


I would select UVA or UNC for the campus experience. UCSD is not in the same caliber as UVA (I am a California resident). UCSB is wonderful, but I don’t think it has strong job placement.

The real choice is between NYC and a traditional college campus experience.


DC would be happy in either setting. We are leaning NYU as it seems to be more international and would provide more opportunities for internships but still debating

Then go to Canada! I know a kid who is very happy at Queens. Save the money for grad school.

If COA is not a significant differentiator, then select based on location of the school.

If you need an answer, Oxy if social justice oriented, Bard if hipster type individual, Whitman if attracted to the PNW, Juniata or Bates if more main stream type.

Bates and Whitman are both fantastic. I’d probably do Whitman — it’s really not like any other place and the vibe is so great — unless the flights/distance really feels unmanageable.
