That is really subjective. I would say a 13 is a good score, but it really depends upon the other items in the submission packet. A student with scores in the 140s would likely be ok with GBRS of 11 and perhaps even 10.

Way off base! My DD got 114 cogat, 108 nngt, 7 GBRS and 141 WISC: accepted.

BWAHAHAHA!!! "Way off base" with a WISC in the 140s? The post states that a student with scores in the 140s would likely be ok with lower GBRS.

For those that haven't read the umpteen million threads on this board about GT -- IT IS NOT JUST ABOUT TEST SCORES!!!!!!!!!

He/she has a shot but not enough information; as the above posts show, alot more goes into the decision than those factors.

I would say that your son has a good progress report. Congratulations!

How important are the test scores in determining eligibility for full-time AAP (level IV) center placement?
Test scores are just one piece of data considered when a file is reviewed for full-time AAP (level IV) center placement.[i] The Level IV Center Central Selection Committee, made up of FCPS teachers, specialists, and administrators, considers multiple criteria, including: ability and achievement test scores, the Gifted Behaviors Rating Scale (GBRS), student progress reports, and other optional information such as the Parent/Guardian Questionnaire.

The committee at the local school is the Local School Advanced Academic Screening Committee.

http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/faqs.html

Who serves on the Local School Advanced Academic Programs Screening Committee?
The Local School Advanced Academic Programs Screening Committee consists of at least three people to include the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, principal/administrator designee, and classroom teacher(s). A guidance counselor, reading teacher, media specialist, ESOL teacher, and/or other specialists may also serve on the committee.

All students in the 2nd grade pool AND students that have been referred all go to the Central Selection Committee. The Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) coordinates the assembly of the portfolio, which is sent on to the Central Selection Committee. Often, but not always, the Local School Advanced Academic Programs Screening Committee has input into elements of the portfolio that are submitted by the AART.

Ok....Just trying to understand the process. The above PP says that the files are screened by a central selection committee. However, my neighbor who was a 2nd grade teacher at the local school says that there was a committee meeting where you really need a teacher to stand up for the child. So...is it at the local level the candidates are discussed and then put forth to the central committee with the local committee recommendation or something like that?

Incorrect

http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/faqs.html

If my child is not in the 2nd grade pool, can he/she still be considered for center placement?
The second grade pool is a starting point. It is a means to identify a group of second grade candidates for the full-time AAP (level IV) center program. It does not have a limiting effect because any parent/guardian, teacher, and/or administrator may refer a child and many do. Students who are referred receive the same consideration as students who are in the pool. All files are screened at the same time by the Central Selection Committees that meet in March/April.

The AAP (Level IV) Referral Form is located in the Parent Information Packet for Screening, Testing, and Identification which is available at your local school or on line at the Advanced Academic Programs website www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/forms.html.

which means that even the parents referred their kids by preparing the self-referral packages and sending the packages to school, the school may/may not decide to recommend the kids to the county evaluation committee. correct? the school will take a month to decide? we are not talking about those kids who got into to AAP pools. the school automatically referred those kids.

GBRS would not be done, probably, until after the AAP referrals are complete and submitted by the parents. Until that is complete, the schools will not know who to complete the referrals for.

Parental referrals are due by early Feb. I believe (but am not sure) that the schools have about one month to get the reports to the central offices.

It takes some effort for the schools to prepare the package, and they only prepare for the children that will be evaluated.
