Most Latinos understand English better than Puerto Rican Spanish, actually.

I don’t understand the criticism that you don’t understand the lyrics. It’s music - that’s the beauty of it. You can still enjoy the beat and the dancing.

But I would be surprised if anyone listening to the Kid Rock halftime show understood his lyrics considering the song he sang celebrates meth addicts, prostitutes, pimps, and crackheads. I’m pretty sure most of the people listening didn’t know it was celebration of that because they simply couldn’t understand the words. So that’s a pretty weak argument.

For those talking about Spanish speakers, I think it is actually difficult for a lot of Spanish speakers to understand the Puerto Rican dialect, which drops a lot of consonants and even entire syllables and pronounces some consonants differently and smashes together words while shortening them. There's also a lot of unique words that are only part of that dialect.

Most Spanish speakers in the USA speak or at least easily understand the Central Mexican dialect, which is what you see all over the TV stations like Univision and telenovelas, and mainstream "in Spanish" media, basically. That, however, is like the opposite of PR Spanish in that it emphasizes the consonant sounds.

By the way, Ricky Martin acted in Mexican telenovelas before making it big, so his stuff is more easily understandable to most Spanish speakers in the USA.

Also as it's considered a family event and airs on TV, keeping it family friendly would be great, every year its centered around skimpily dressed gyrating dancers.
