The discussion around these drugs is precisely the same b.s. we hear about anti-depressants. Yes, I am on TWO anti-depressants for life. No, it's not because I'm soft, or American, or can't deal with the ups and downs of life. I've gone off my medications 4 times, all with the help of psychopharmacologists, and each time it is devastating. So I will be taking them forever. How nice for you that you don't have to! Same thing with weight loss drugs, statins, insulin, arthritis drugs, Vit. D, antacides, etc. etc. etc.

Yes there might be side effects, long-term effects--absolutely. But I'll take those over the results of not being on my medications, which for me is death. Willpower and toughness simply has nothing to do with it.

There are people who inflicted a lot of psychological pain on themselves with calorie deprivation and grueling exercise regimens. Some of these people had that pain inflicted by their parents, too.

So, along comes a drug that helps people lose weight without disordered eating, self-loathing, or any of the rest of the baggage that can come with weight loss by traditional methods. The people who went through this pain have a choice -- either that pain was unnecessarily inflicted or the drug is somehow wrong. A good number of people are going to firmly embrace the latter rather than accepting the former.

It's like spanking. Turns out their parents hit them for no good reason. That's an intolerable thought. So they have to rationalize that "spanking is good, actually."

In a way this makes sense, since fuller faces often look younger. Not always tho, considering jowls and double chins.
But is it really as drastic as described here? Or does it get worse over time?

She's very discouraged and thinking of doing them again. She worked with a nutritionist this time and has set meal plans and everything, but the weight just piled back on.
