Who is this delusional poster repeatedly posting on this thread who is rentlentless in his insistence that NOVA has better lax programs and high school teams that Montgomery County and DC? It's just not true. The only NOVA school with great lax is SSSA and only the girls' program is consistently superior.

There are many reasons. Private schools (especially the top tier programs) typically have:

Better facilities
Better talent
Better coaching
Play in better leagues against better competition
More kids who have played the game longer and at a higher level

The gap, however, is narrowing. It used to be that a top public school kid felt compelled to transfer to a private school in order to play with better teammates, face better competition, get more recruiting exposure, etc.

Now that the game is exploding, more and more kids find that they can play for their public school and still get attention via their club team, individual recruiting events, etc. Northern Virginia is far superior to Montgomery County, but neither can field teams that are competitive with the best private teams in this area.

Over the past decade you could say SSSAS in a league of their own for the girls, but the gap has closed. Visitation won the league in 2012, first time in 15 years or so anyone but he Saints had won.

For boys, the top DC area teams (Gonzaga, Prep, Landon) do actually compare favorably with the Baltimore teams although Baltimore still comes out ahead most years.

Gonzaga has emerged as a top program, but as a whole, the DC top tier teams have not come out ahead of the Baltimore top tier teams in any recent year. There have been noteworthy wins here and there, but the cream of the MIAA A has been superior to what the IAC and WCAC can offer.

That said, lacrosse in this area (especially in NoVA) has been getting better and better.

For boys, the consensus top 5 would always include Prep, Landon and Gonzaga. St. Stephens and Bullis have been very strong the last two-three years. STA, PVI, DeMatha, Potomac, Episcopal and Flint Hill are in the next tier down with STA and DeMatha being tougher over the longer term. PVI has been strong the last two years. In the public schools, there is generally a recognized drop in talent vis-a-vis the privates. Chantilly, Langley, Churchill and Whitman are tough public teams in most years.

True about Baltimore but Boys Latin is the only team in Baltimore ranked higher than Gonzaga.
