He doesn't act like he has good sense, so I assume either are possible.
Ok yes. So if we can move past the inane chatter about her being an abuser who shouldn't be on social media, we can center on the real issue, which you have succinctly summarized here: either he abandoned her or killed her. I'm curious whether people think abandoned or killed is more likely?

God bless, PP. Lol
Really? Because I can see them getting in a fight, her running away and him doing something stupid like just driving the van home and not reporting her missing or looking for her. And only now realizing he could be responsible for her death. They don't seem like the sharpest tools

Then the next night a sighting of him at a bar called Bullwinkles in Montana. Maybe the search should be that road from Ashton to Bullwinkles (20?). It’s like they left Grand Teton together and she never made it to Yellowstone. All of these sighting may not be verified but the route seems to match where they were going. Look at the road on a map. Lots of remote areas there.

But so fun. Already thinking of a novel centered on a mental health facility in a way off the beaten path location. All personnel live on site, and there is no TV, internet or cell phone reception, only a single landline phone.
Jesus you’re obtuse. It’s not some magical place with no tv, etc.
No one is saying they don’t know people are looking for her, they’re saying people that know can not legally say anything.
If your adult child checked into a facility and you didn’t know, how would you find out? You can’t. They can’t tell you. You wouldn’t know. You’d think they are "missing" when in fact they are not missing. People there would know where your child was, they just couldn’t legally tell you.
