Subject: Stop the FCV (DA) and McLean (ECNL) hate
I wish more coaches would value team culture over just getting the biggest, fastest girls hoping they can turn them into soccer players. So many coaches are out looking for the next shiny object not realizing they have a bunch already. Just inserting one player with a bad attitude and difficult parents can ruin a team.

The favoring of certain players was overt. Clyde would have 1 on 1 training sessions with 2-4 girls in particular every week. This didn't sit well with players or parents. Some players, regardless of effort, mistakes, quality of play, attitude, teamwork, etc. would play no matter what. It rubbed a lot of folks the wrong way. Clyde didn't address it and lost the team.
The McLean 05 team is doing ok now, but benefit from a very weak division. That was shown last season when they got to nationals. They couldn't hang with anyone. Hoping for good things for the kids! Hoping Clyde learned from this!

The U13 team had a lot of talent before it broke up. But they never came together as a team. Lots of clicks and not much playing for each other. Some kids and parents thought their kid was the greatest and should start / play more, etc. One parent in particular was upset and organized many leaving for MU (was WSVA then).
That makes sense. Talent isn't the only dictator of success. The ability to play together is another. I have seen talented teams suffer from poorer results than the talent level because of this, and coaches are often uncomfortable with addressing it. It can be bad enough that a player can be open in front of goal and not be given a ball.

Wrong. He coached the team at the U-13 ECNL age group. The departures took place after that season when 10 players left for the DA.
Wow, after losing 10 players, the team is ranked No. 1 in Virginia! Usually, teams nosedive after so many players depart. Why did the team improve so much?
They didn't. The MA ECNL is very weak. The 05 team is well coached with good athletes. Not sure where that ranking is coming from. If it is GotSoccer, that is all tied to tournaments. Look at Youthsoccerrankings.com or topdrawersoccer.com. All of them have their drawbacks, but McLean is nowhere near #1 in Virginia, let alone the country.

That parent’s argument is incredibly revealing. Perhaps you shouldn’t share the story of that 1 player.

In ECNL for that year they are very weak. The team does not do well when it plays anyone good outside the conference.

McLean is to blame for their turnover. If they would learn to stick with their current players and not recruit over top of them they would stay strong. Instead they go out recruiting. Most of the players they bring in are not top players and it makes their current ones unhappy and they leave. McLean 2005 team would be a powerhouse if they hadn't brought in a bunch of new girls and benched the better ones. 2/3 of the team left. They are doing above average now but I would argue that they would be a top team had Clyde not angered so many of his parents. The McLean 2008 team has lost top players to Arlington and FCV this year.
Where did the McLean 05 girls go?
I heard they spread out between Metro United and Arlington. I don't think any went to FCV, though not sure if any tried out.
Most Arlington, a few to Metro and I believe one or 2 to FCV

Ranked No1 in ECNL. Which really is a nothing league now. Especially in this area.
