This is the same as saying "violence from all sides" and you know it. Only one side showed up armed with the intent to fight.

I feel certain they were also hoping to get footage or photos of law enforcement attacking the alt-right, so they could use it in their recruitment materials. It seems they've learned a few things from the likes of ISIS.

The right to peaceably assemble is one worth fighting for. It's a despicable and diabolical mindset that uses that right to assemble with weapons and intent to use them.

I've never wanted to see people stripped of their citizenship before now. Round this trash up, drive them to the Mexico border and make them walk over to Nuevo Laredo.

Wrong. The counter protestors showed up with chemical sprays and threw some of the first punches, per the WaPo.

Exactly. Even The Washington Post was forced to admit the truth.

You guys have got to learn what an op ed is.

Dear heart, it was in a news article, but nice try!

Why didn't he let the police or the National Guard intervene sooner, before someone got killed?

Because he was following a court order.

This. The Governor was in a damned did you do/ damned if you don't situation. The City had public safety concerns before the rally took place and said they couldn't secure the demonstration area. They tried to move it to an area that could be better secured. And a federal Court ordered them not to.

http://www.nbc29.com/story/36115819/judge-grants-injunction-jason-kessler-can-have-unite-the-right-rally-at-emancipation-park

If McAuliffe had moved the National Guard in before he absolutely had to, the Alt right would have sued. He didn't more them fast enough, and people are pissed.

Here's an idea, maybe the Alt right (and the ACLU, who represented them) should have worked with law enforcement to ensure public safety? Instead of forcing them to allow a protest that the CITY SAID WAS UNSAFE.

Yep. Big ACLU supporter here, but they need to reflect now.

+1. They have their reasons (because public safety has been used as a pretext in the past), but they are too dismissive of legitimate public safety concerns.

That's absurd. It's not the ACLU's job to organize the march. They are lawyers, and their job is to represent the First Amendment rights of their clients. Safety is the government's job. The court decides what balance is acceptable.

Is it true or not true that the counter protestors showed up with chemical sprays?

Cherry picking your photos doesn't help your cause, in fact it undermines it. Because it only take a quick effort to google for photos like these:

There is nothing wrong with the "killing Nazis is my heritage" one. Many of us have relatives who fought in WWII. No reason she shouldn't use that on a sign.

So are these American Nazis the same as the ones in WWII? Are these American Nazis supposed to be killed by private individuals, with no trial, no jury, no rule of law? Here he/she is (I thought it was a he, but it doesn't really matter), advocating mortal violence against people that he/she calls Nazis, by birthright.

Holy shit lol did you really just try to make a delineation between "good" American Nazis and bad WWII Nazis? They're the same!! There is no threat to kill anyone, the sign simply says she's there protesting the Nazi presence because that's what her family DOES. Fight Nazis. Signs are not weapons or violence lmao

So you propose that it's open season to kill Americans who are Nazis? You think this is how a civil society of law conducts itself?

I'll be interested in talking about appropriate solutions with people who agree that these white supremacists grievances are entirely frivolous. I'm not really interested in debating the finer points of that argument with people who think there is no relevant difference between these white supremacists and other aggrieved groups.

Apparently it's open season to mow down thirty year old mothers in crowds.
