NATO is simply the United States with political cover. Without the U.S., NATO is utterly defunct.

DP nato will easily be able to continue without the US. The US will not be able continue without NATO. The US will have to increase defense spending by trillions. All your little constant wars and bombing will be 100 times more difficult without NATO. Good luck bombing Iran and protecting Israel.
There is this thing called aircraft carriers, have you ever heard of them ? They are floating bases that can go anywhere they want. The US has 11 of them. They can bomb anywhere with a little pre-planning. No bases needed. F Europe and their bases. We still have bases in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, thats where the action is anyway.

Try launching a B1 or B2 from an aircraft carrier. Diego Garcia will be gone. Bases in the Mideast? Do you think that Qatar and Bahrain and the UAE are going to simply comply with the US when the rest of the world is against us? Where will those aircraft carriers resupply? And the entire carrier group? Fuel on those things lasts decades, but you got to feed 5000 people 3 times a day.
Yes I think Qatar, Bahrain, and Saudi will play ball with US, especially if Iran is still hanging around.

One reason Trump didn't attack last week was because those three said no.
Yeah right, I’m sure you’re in the loop on that and spouting on an anonymous Internet forum.

Read a newspaper. Any newspaper. It's more productive than sitting in your mom's basement. Here's one.

"
Gulf states and Turkey warned Trump strikes on Iran could lead to major conflict
US allies’ lobbying appears to have helped persuade president to hold off for now on military assault

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Oman urged Donald Trump not to launch airstrikes against Iran in a last-minute lobbying campaign prompted by fears that an attack by Washington would lead to a major and intractable conflict across the Middle East.

The warnings of chaos from the longstanding US allies appear to have helped persuade Trump late on Wednesday to hold off for the moment on a military assault. In the case of Saudi Arabia, its reticence led it to deny the US use of its airspace to mount any attacks."

The best part about all this will not be the closing of bases. Hell, Trump will probably get a Putin performance bonus for that.

The best time will come when the Scots take his golf course and the other countries nationalize his properties globally.

This is silly.

They have nearly $2M troops and sophisticated weaponry and better leadership (now).

They also have nuclear weapons and various financial levers.

NATO would be weaker, and they lack a peer navy, but the US is also much weaker now because of trump and continues to decline. China has to be laughing its ass of. They get to solely create a new world order without the US because a bunch of morons didn’t want to wear a mask or get their ouchy shots or bought into whatever trans sex fantasies the maga men seem in to.
450M of that 2M is Turkey, anybody really counting on that being productive or even available if the time comes ?

DP. You really seem to not understand what NATO is or the standards that must be met. Turkey has approximately 355,200 active-duty military personnel across its Land, Air, and Naval Forces.

Your posts show your ignorance. You must have a senior defense position in the Trump White House.

United States in 1917 purchases for $25 million, a group of islands including St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. They were renamed the U.S. Virgin Islands. This was done to keep Germany from threatening the Panama Canal. As part of the deal the US recognized Denmark's sovereignty over Greenland

Yep China respects international law. This is why the world is doing deal with China and not the US.

No Nato will be fine. They have a GDP of 27 trillion and a population of 610 million without the US. 5 eyes will become 4 eyes. The Europeans can build anything the US can build but better at this point. Look at Airbus vs Boeing. Only about 15% or 142 billion of the US defense budget is spent in Nato. Though this is impossible to break out of the US military because it encompasses all overseas operations. The US would not reduce any spending if it left Nato. The loss of European bases and shared bases would cripple the US military capability for decades and cost trillions to replace. We use a lot of European bases outside Europe. The Europeans spend over 500 billion a year for Nato.

The US has 100,000 troop in Europe and would deploy 200,000 more(this was before republicans said they will not honor article 5). Nato without the US has an active duty forces of 2.11 million plus another 1.9 million reservist. Nato without the US has 7,000 main battle tanks, 2,300 combat aircraft, 4,000 helicopters, 8,500 artillery pieces, etc, etc. Remember Nato without the US will not need these very expensive weapons systems that work only 1/2 the time. Russia just does not have the capabilities to challenge Nato without the US.

Without Nato buying things like the f-35 cost would rise dramatically and the already expensive maintenance cost skyrocket. Same for all the US weapons systems- patriot missiles, blackhawks, Ospreys, etc. The maintenance is too expensive and dependent on the US.

This would be a very stupid move for the US.
