I’ve seen this statement a lot on this page and it makes me wonder, when people say this are they talking about those who hold citizenship from both Israel and the United States or are they talking about American citizens who are Jewish? Because those two things are not the same but more and more I’m beginning to feel that people don’t understand that very real difference.
Jewish is not a nationality. It seems like you're the only one who doesn't understand the difference? No one who works in any level of the US government should have dual citizenship anywhere. Israel, Saudi Arabia, UK, Sealand, wherever. I don't care about anyone's personal religion.
I'm the PP who asked this question and I do understand the difference. I also know that lately this question of "dual loyalty/dual nationality" only seems to get applied around issues related to zionism or Israel, and often it feels like there's an underlying suggestion that Jews, regardless of their citizenship, can't be trusted to have America's best interest at heart.
For what it's worth, I'm a 4th generation American Jew with family in Israel but I'm not a dual citizen. I'm also someone who believes in the vision of Israel but detests the current government and has actively participated in the growing protest movement whenever I'm in Israel (most of my Israeli family members and friends were a part of yesterday's strike and protests). This idea that all Israelis are just one thing, that their very presence there makes them complicit in what's going on in Gaza, baffles me. Are all Americans wholly represented by the Trump administration and it's decisions?
Serious question- how can you believe in the vision of Israel when all this violence and ethnic cleansing has happened because of Balfour in 48. I ask because my in laws were displaced in the Nakba in 48 and are now dead. They never set foot in Palestine again after they were expelled. How do you sleep at night knowing this has happened and had led to everything that is happening now? Also, latest polls show that 79% of Israelis are okay with the starvation going on, so while I don’t think we can make blanket statements on Israelis as a whole- a vast majority of them seem totally cool with Palestinians dying or being displaced. It is not that deep. Israel is a country that exists now. You want the U.S. to go to war to make it not a country anymore. Why would we do that?

It's presently fashionable, but in reality no Western countries want to see a proliferation of Palestinians or of Palestinian values and mores. Not much different than saying tsk, tsk about the situations in Haiti, Sudan, or other failing entities which are unable to govern themselves successfully.
