This is also an effective and free way to clear the building of long term tenants paying well under market rate and of tenants who may exercise TOPA rights (ie, have an income) if the owner decides to sell or convert to condos.

The bolded is illegal. DC is breaking the law. Any lawyers here?
It’s not against the law becuase DC gov intentionally set the rate to allow above market rates specifically encourage more voucher rentals! This happened in 2018 I believe. Unsaid is that above market rates also cover the damage to units caused by renting to unstable, addicts, mentally ill tenants. The city got exactly what they wanted from the program.
Nadeau needs to be recalled. She is absolutely stupid in all things. this idea to let tenants rent out someone elses home is insane.
And costs to evict, although since DC does not pull vouchers, they typically move to another building in the immediate area.
"Returning citizens" ie., convicts, also receive housing vouchers. For anyone following the case in Baltimore, know that DC law only allows a landlord to look back 7 years for a criminal conviction, so how many people like Jason Billingsly being put in buildings on Connecticut, Wisconsin, etc.? How is it that someone who is a registered sex offender can do work as a maintenance man in rental housing? 7 years is not nearly long enough for violent crimes like rape, murder, ADW to be considered by landlords.

Join ANC 3F w/ MPD, Sunday, Oct 1 @ 10am at Forest Hills Playground for a Public Safety Walk.
No idea if Frumin will attend. If you see him at Art All Night Friday or Saturday, pls encourage him to do so.
Did anyone attend?
I walked by the group when they were walking, Frumin was not there. There were maybe a dozen + people and 4-5 MPD? MPD does community meetings, coffee with a cop events, etc. pretty regularly. Usually announced on Next Door but you could contact your police district directly to get on a mailing list, I suppose.
There is an upcoming meeting in Ward 3 with the incoming police chief in October. Frumin mentioned it, details still to be finalized/announced.

There is a lot more visible drug dealing in Forest Hills/Van Ness than in the past. I don't know that all involved are residents, many may know or be associated with or related to tenants and come from elsewhere.
Up and down 36th street, cars pull over and the deal happens right there, some prostitution in cars parked there too. Especially over by Sheridan school, which makes it a bigger crime by statute. I’ve seen exchanges by Murch too.
I live in the affected area but I must say that I have never seen any deals or prostitution near Sheridan school -- or anything approximating that. The location is also a block away from the backs of many embassies and there is often a police car on 36th street itself in that area.
I have occasionally seen some evidence of dealing and prostitution near Days Inn/car wash. Not constant, but on certain days, a number of people are begging for cash, and once a woman in a tube dress waiting around the parking lot there had a prostitute vibe. The only deals I have seen go down near Sheridan are for expensive organic vegetables.
