Printing paper with less purchasing value than the money you borrowed is the dishonest type of defaulting. They should just default honestly.

Democrats passed the budget in the lame duck session when they still had the majority but had been voted out.

The general narrative is when they do the budget, Democrats will blame Republicans for not passing Biden's budget and say they are responsible for shutting down the government, Biden will shut down the parks, and send National Park Service after tourists, 'you are not allowed to recreate.' Biden will threaten to withhold Social Security checks unless Republicans agree to his budget.
Once the budget is agreed to, usually with 50 Republican votes and all the Democrats, then when the debt ceiling comes around, Democrats will complain that Republicans passed the budget, now they have to spend the money.

They were voted out by the narrowest of margins and this is money that has already been spent.

It is nothing short of reckless grandstanding by the republicans

Biden better be making sure congressional dems are on board with whatever he is agreeing to. It's going to be a disaster if he gives away the farm and there is a party line vote where dems are voting against the bill that he's negotiated.

Kevin is dumb. I'm sure Biden is letting Kev think he has a deal but Biden is smarter than Kevin.

Not sure about that. I admire Biden and think he is a very effective president facing a lot of ageism in our society - but I doubt KM got that position without behind the scenes smarts.

But Kevin is in very weak position because he allowed RW extremists to determine the conditions for his current job.

It’s clear Kevin is keeping his folks in the dark. He knows the freedom caucus is going to go ape no matter what deal he strikes with Biden. That means he’s going to need a deal good enough to get at least a couple dozen democratic votes.

I think it is much deeper than that.

If Democrats use the same anti democratic, unprincipled and dishonest tactics they lose not only moral authority but political credibility.

The best Democratic process is to be reasonable, fair and honest - not to descend into lies, manipulation and winning end justifies the means type mentality of Trumpian Republicans .

So you would not be in favor of senate voting on a simple majority to pass laws and other things?
