I feel like the first stance is more reasonable. How can a player currently playing on grade, move to a younger pool, and not be selected to the top team, without it being an obvious scandal?
Top teams at top clubs have a large pool of players to choose from. Because of this they wont roster Aug play downs because they dont want the hassle and dont need to deal with all the issues related to playing down. On top of everything else playing down (being misaligned) severly limits players ability to get recruited. Committments are free media for clubs that can be used to recruit new players for an entire year. They want them to make more money and field better teams.
College coaches look at players by Graduation Year. I labeled this playing down or playing up. Its the same thing.
All college coaches care about is the year players will graduate. This is he pool of talent they are sorting through. This is also why being misaligned and playing down is so bad. It doesnt matter how you play you're being compared with players that are your grade in school / graduation year.
LOL
You think college recruiters are wading through thousands of players to review just because of graduating year?
They have a shortlist and then they'll see when you'll be available

Coaches that want to win will review the largest pool possible looking for talent. Especially with 28 player rosters being mandated.
Coaches that dont care about winning wont.

There is no development going on in college soccer.
The why do you want to play college soccer. For the little schorlarship? it is not even enough to pay my property tax .
It gets players into schools. You get some money and a scholorship. Most important is you get priority registration for classes and sometimes things like tutors.

Another way coaches find talent is by reaching out and working with clubs they know are successful. But everyone is doing this so its hard to make relationships. And in this situation clubs are going to try to sell college coaches on players that might not be what they're looking for. Or maybe play 2 for 1 games.
The point is theres no rules in recruiting and playing down a grade is generally looked down upon.

Get it through your head that you're not going to convince parents that playing Aug birthdays down is in any way desirable.
If you really want to play down so bad just hold your Aug birthday kid back in school. Then you can collect all the plastic trophies you can handle and your kid wont get ignored by college coaches when its time for recruiting.
Most likes for dropping down to play on age for best team (ECNL) and second most to only play up if she would be a top player a year up. This is what the clubs are going towards anyway.Anonymous wrote:Another Facebook thread where 90% of the resposes suggest Aug birthdays play on the team thats their grade in school.
