Maybe it was a planned absence, which doesn't always merit a notification.

Agreed. Their approach makes a lot of sense and has worked very well. Where they went wrong was in their communications and setting the expectation over the summer that we would be in-person from the start, which lead to a lot of frustration and feelings of being duped. The problem was never with the plan itself.

I know many of us were frustrated with the slow reopening but I think this measured approach was ultimately smart. The kids have been able to rebuild some stamina and adjusted to returning to school with new protective measures in place. So far so good!

For middle school, doesn’t it just mean the kids will do the exact same thing as they do now with 1/2 days? Academic classes until noon, and then sit on their computers somewhere on campus to do specials? Or are they actually adding real, in person classes in the afternoon? Perhaps more than two 30 minute classes of language a week (which is a joke)? PE maybe?

I will say it again. If you have questions about the process of becoming a Board Member reach out to the Board Chair and ask to speak with the chair of the Committee of Trustees. I'm sure they would welcome the opportunity to answer them. Lastly you do have a say with your vote, you can vote no for individuals put on the ballot.

Yes, I am for real. I think you may be surprised, they may be very open to hearing about different perspectives on how to improve the selection process. I guess I have had a much different experience with Board members over the years. I have found them all to be open to hearing from all members of the community and never seen anything that appears to be putting individuals on lists as you mention. And as a preivous poster mentioned, participanting on the Board is very time consuming, each year there are community members who pass on consideration for the Board because of the time commitment.

It is exactly because the teachers are working so hard that we all have to do our part to keep them safe by following the social contract. You might not think it is a big deal to be maskless when the teacher opens the car door at carline, And I agree it’s likely very low risk, but think about what the teacher sees/how that makes him/her feel. You might not personally be aware of maskless, non distant, cross cohort get togethers, but I know of several that have occurred in the last week. This post is simply a plea for everyone to think of the whole community and how their actions affect others, particularly the teachers. As we see from current events, things don’t work when people flaunt basic mitigation rules. The school is not asking much of us (eg, wear a mask when doors open at carline) in return for giving us a lot, namely teachers risking their health to give us in person school.
