That is how it is going to play out if you really want to go there...

Liberals love big government control and are socialist by nature so yes they’re fine with it. That way they can increase their rate of concocting people of blood sins. Oh, your parents voted for Trump and you have the same DNA, off to the rice fields with you.

As I sad before, why do Asian people have to pay for this garbage? I’m not white, I didn’t own slaves and neither did my ancestors. If you really want reparations move to Europe and protest there. They started the slave trade and colonized Africa not the USA. I’m sure they’re more than willing to help, besides most of you want us to be more like Europe anyways so just move there. My family moved here to escape this kind of nonsense and here we have people trying to push socialist programs and complaining. Why do you think it’s owed to you?

Just 26% of respondents to a new poll say the government should pay money to black Americans descended from slaves, with black Americans far more likely than white Americans to support the idea

Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder Bob Johnson this month called for $14 trillion in reparations to atone for slavery, government-sponsored discrimination and “permanent emotional trauma” experienced by black Americans. The proposed reparations, he said in a statement, would take the form of direct cash payments over 10 to 20 years to descendants of African-American enslaved people.

Think about that level of popular support and that monetary estimate. Not compatible. But even assuming support, where would the money come from? Especially after the debt from coronavirus.

Thanks for saying this. I’ll follow up to see whether to really be concerned. You might have just dissuaded me. That position and some of the more radical BLM ideas are alienating. Perhaps the Republicans will keep the Senate to counter some of the extreme proposals likely to surface if the Democrats have full control.

You are turned off by economic equality? Why is that?

It was a key part of MLK’s crusade. His “I have a dream” speech was at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

One hundred years later (All right), the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later (My Lord) [applause], the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself in exile in his own land.

Another quote from that day - still very fitting for today:
And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. [enthusiastic applause] There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

I think MLK would be disgusted with how little progress we’ve made.

Why don’t you think black people should get “special treatment”? They got “special treatment” for 400 years, so...

Every race has faced their pains. Heard of the Nanking massacre in Asia? Vietnam war? Chinese communist purges? Chinese faces lots of racism here. Why as an Asian or a Hispanic should I have to give reparations to black people? We didn’t use slaves and it’s not something I will apologize for.

Actually, you do realize that Brazil and the Caribbean had far more slaves than the U.S., don’t you? Spain colonized those areas (mostly). So Hispanics owe too. Asians, not so much. Anyhow, reparations are not the way to go. Handing money out never solves anything. Just further enslaves people to welfare vs. hard work and ingenuity.

I listened to a young black women who was protesting brutality and equal rights say "....you better be glad all black people want is equality and not revenge....."

Her last line took my breath away. She nailed it because it's true.

I’d respect revenge a lot more than whining. However revenge didn’t get the Native Americans very far.

But first they need to “defund the police.”’ DCUM ideas are persuasive — for voting for Republicans except for the WH.

He will lose more support if he does.

Isn’t it interesting how there has been a sudden resurgence of the reparations demands right before a critical election? It’s almost as if an outside agent is working to tear apart the Democrats by forcing an issue that will never gain broad support. There are now substantial numbers of African Americans who are under the impression that they will soon be getting reparations. it’s an ingenious way to get people’s hopes up so they will be extra alienated when it doesn’t happen.

Really? People are so insistent on immediate reparations that they are willing to let Trump win? Good luck. You'll need it.

Top PP is a Con trying to make reparations a wedge issue.

Certainly something to consider regarding privacy.

They could research genealogy with historical records, but that’d be more difficult and labor extensive.

I don’t want money thrown at me. I want systemic change. I want to work with peoples of all colors to improve our institutions of government and our public policies, and eradicate that which sustains racism. I want a future in which my kids and grandkids are respected as human beings. I want them judged by their intelligence, empathy, and work ethic - not by the color of their skin.

Money doesn’t buy that.

What about opportunity gaps?
e.g., predominantly-black K-12 school districts spend $25B less than similarly-sized, predominantly-white districts.

What about the wealth gap?

Tax the f**k out of the wealthy. Give to everyone else. That will work a transfer from wealthy whites to poor people of color. As the poor have more money and the ultra-wealthy have less, that should improve the opportunity gap.

That will certainly help the people who need it the most, but why can't we acknowledge that poor white people still have "privilege" over poor black people? Not sure why people aren't willing to acknowledge that even if they don't want to give reparations.

You're right of course. But it's intersectional: middle class black people have privilege over poor white people. If you want to tax the hell out of rich people and only give to poor black people, I won't complain too much, but the resulting resentment will probably cause more harm than good.
