FWIW- I think Matt Marriott is a great guy/coach. Yes he can be rather intense..but seems to genuinely care about the boys.

Agree, biggest loss is the clinics which provide reps and skills development year round for the younger kids. The indoor space was simply too small for the older guys to have meaningful team practices, so not a huge loss there.

Some of their teams practice outside during the winter.

Yes, the older teams practiced outside during the day on weekends this past winter. A quick check from last year showed a number of those practices were cancelled. But it's not the teams, it's the clinics and especially the younger ages which were well run and acted as a feeder to the teams that is the concern. These guys will figure it out.

The lights will help extend their daily use from March- november. These guys are pretty clever so I bet they will make good use of the lit fields.

Why can't they use the fields if the air temp is 40 or below? It is a private organization. My son plays for them and he has definitely had practices and played in games where the air temperature was below 40.

My son plays for them too and they have not played any games or practices on the fields at WES from mid November through February.

No winter practices at WES in the evenings due to lack of daylight. Apparently NL/WES are sharing the cost of lights installation so that should allow PM practices November-March.

You think they'll be running practices from November through February in 25 - 40 weather at night? They'll also have to account for bad weather in general. While it didn't snow this winter, we had a lot of rain. The average low is in the mid to high 20's for those months too. I'm a fan of NL but let's be realistic about winter outside.

I live near Bullis and I can tell you there are plenty of practices being held in the winter and it is not just Bullis teams but to other teams they rent to.

Also, I haven't heard of madlax, Blc or nl having outdoor team practice during the winter. Maybe I'm wrong.

BLC has practices at the Performance facility during the winter.

NL does not have outdoor winter practices but will do so now at WES with the installation of lighting there.

No idea about Madlax.

I doubt they'll be scheduling evening clinics at WES during the winter--their communication mentioned using Rockville Sportsplex and/or St James for indoor clinics.

I can't imagine the Bethesda based players driving during rush hour to get to St James for indoor clinics. This will be a very bad idea.

Correct - BLC practices indoor, ML doesn't practice but has clinics in Tysons indoors and NL is going to try and use other indoor locations. I can't believe the outdoors at WES will be usable most nights during the winter. It will be interesting to see how this club, with all their clinics and teams, moves forward after the summer.

No idea how they'll handle it but I assume they'll look at the forecast and if it's bad (i.e., too cold or too much precip), they'll cancel or postpone. Same process they follow Spring/Summer/Fall.
