To boot the technical director was promoted to the pro team Head Coach earlier today, so I am sure his time with the DA teams will be extremely limited. I posted this on another thread and thought since it was a cut and paste of this exact post, I'd move it to here:
A couple of things:
1. The teamsnap is at 28, but the roster is not (and this is all very specific to the 04 group). That's not even legal within the DA. A portion of those girls are EDP and are on both teamsnaps. Ultimately the DA roster will be 18-20. None of the other teams have that many (in most cases because there is no EDP).
2. I was there yesterday and never saw girls in any age group sitting other than when they went to get water and to say 1/3 of practice is at best a gross exaggeration.
3. I will acknowledge Mondays are a day they need to work on simply because that's the one day all the teams are at Lake Fairfax. Wednesdays the U19s are elsewhere and Thursdays don't have the U13s (who practice on Fridays). That said, there was really only one small period of some congestion when the U13s & 14s were wrapping up while the U15s and 17s were showing up (which is partly mitigated by the fitness training).
4. Also, I would give Tom Torres a chance to work out the promotion before we start crapping on it as if he's already gone.
As a Spirit parent from last year, I actually think things are overall much better than last year and it's one practice. Give time (and perhaps feedback to Spirit directly) about the Monday practices. We practiced last Wednesday and Thursday without any of these issues so while I'm sure there are some kinks to work out, it's not quite as this post reads, respectfully. This sounds more like a panicked parent to me.
There will be 18 on gameday only. Doesn't change the fact that practices and scrimmages are at 28. Interested to know how you think the NJ scrimmages were handled.
50 kids on a field isnt development. Thats not going to change. The lack of a true team practice is why Spirit will continually decline and why others like Loudoun will excel. You cant expect a team to play soccer when they dont practice soccer tactics, positional responsibilities, etc. Practicing on a 10 x10 square every day makes them good at passing in a 10x10 square.
Spirit has 2 forces on either side of them. Loudoun and Arlington. They will start losing players. It will happen. I've seen it time and time again with programs that underestimate parents.
Ahhh! I was wondering which agenda you had. Loudoun it is. Don't worry about us. Enjoy life in the tier 2 of ECNL, competing against VDA and the like.
Not one spirit team could beat a Loudoun team![]()

The 04s are a new team for him but have been weak. This will be a real test to see if his coaching techniques of screaming and belittling can produce results from a less talented group. If any parent wants to move their kid to that after Spirit, they made the wrong choice to join Spirit in the first place, which has never pretended to be a “win at any costs” type of club.
The 02 team he took over went from 10th in CCL to 3rd in the mid Atlantic conference in ECNL and qualified for nationals. My kid plays on that team and every player on that team has improved so much. The difference a year with this coach has made with the 02 team is staggering. My daughter has never been belittled and as I have said on this forum before my kid and her coach have a very good relationship. I think finishing 3rd in an ECNL conference means you are a good team? It would be nice if you could stop dragging young players and coaches that you clearly know very little about.
Apparently, you know very little.
He cut almost every girl on 02 roster from the previous year (CCL), so its not like he was coaching the same group of girls to a remarkable turn around. Plus, he stopped coaching one 02 during season to the point where she started playing with the 01 team. If he comes to the conclusion that a player can't help him win games, he stops coaching them. Or, if he's filling in as a coach, he'll have his girls play up and not play the girls at the level he is subbing for. This happens regularly.
He may indeed make your daughter a better soccer player, and will continue to do so as long as she can help win him games, but the guy is only out for himself.

What is making you sit on a Tuesday afternoon and talk poorly about a 25 year old coach who is clearly doing great things considering his age. Move on and grow up
So now its Wednesday morning, does that make it better?
My problem with him is that he treats people poorly.
In particular, he treats kids poorly and takes no responsibility when he is called on it.
My child has played for him for almost 2 years now and this is crazy, he does not treat kids poorly. My child thinks he is fantastic, maybe it's time for you to get off an anonymous forum and move on
I think it is possible for two people to have two different opinions of a coach based on how their kid is treated or progressing. People have said that if the kid can help him win, in his eyes, then he is terrific. Congratulations that your kid is currently viewed by the coach in this way. That said, you might want to store what folks have said about the other side of the coach in the back of your head in case your kid slips out of his good graces. Their experience does not need to invalidate your experience or impression.
