Agree - plus which ART would be calling the minute they heard when they gave the child an 8 for GBRS? Clearly the school didn't support the child being AAP material.

This is a kid who would be fine in general ed.

Nothing is gifted about this kid, bright and would do well in GE but average at best in AAP. But different things matter to different people and in this area being in AAP is the one!

Would do well in GE but average at best in AAP? You have it all figured out - only thing you need to do next is get over yourself.

It is the parent's place to make that decision. Sometimes parents see and hear things others don't - kids are shy, don't speak their mind or whatever. Class teacher is busy with 25 to 30 kids.

And if for some reason the kid doesn't do well in AAP, they can always get back to GE.

Between, PP, good for you and GL to ur kid!

I agree with your general statement except I can't buy in to the idea that whether a child is gifted rests primarily with the parent. Otherwise AAP would have open enrollment. Maybe you're talking about those on the edge, the appeal factor.

Agreed. It is not up to the parents to make that decision. Parents can only apply/ appeal or whatever, the committee needs to approve the child of AAP.

You have a very good AART, mine wouldn't even meet with me! Would you mind sharing your scores?

Our school gave out level III letters this week so I imagine the decisions for appeals are in the mail, by tomorrow at the latest.

Appeal Decisions to be completed tomorrow, responses mailed out end of June. But feel free to do a flyby past the AAP County Office and provide the forum with a
more timely update!
