Big Pharma and Healthcare Execs simply can't keep raking in the compensation they are on the backs of the American people. It should not be a for-profit industry.
It's a very complicated issue because Healthcare is a number one employer in our country. Lots and lots of jobs of American citizens depend on Healthcare spending and government sponsored healthcare (Medicare/Medicaid) is a huge chunk of it. All this added overhead and middlemen and complicated paper and IT systems and bureaucracy are jobs... Not to mention a lot of hospitals, care facilities, nursing homes, physical therapy places, etc survive mostly off Medicare. It's a problem so long in the making that it has become a self-perpetuating circle of hell. WE are all paying for employing our fellow citizens, we are all paying for each other to have jobs and get paid. Lower hanging fruit to starting to fix it is to address fraud and reducing the profits of middlemen, especially if they aren't giving back in the form of good wages for the American employees.

Got my SS check, Medicare and the planes are flying. The government does nothing. Shut it down and fire everyone!
So you are happy for what you got from the government but f*ck everyone else.
No food or healthcare for kids. No research. No parks. No weather forecasting.
Just like a republican.
DP. What have I gotten from government? Damn near nothing. I pay plenty.
No weather forecasting? srsly? You believe that crap? Yes, if everyone doesn't send a check to DC, there will be no weather forecasting.![]()
Please.
National defense, funding for highways, breathable air and potable water, Auto safety regulations, medical research (that has produced treatments which saved members of your family), civil rights, antiterrorism professionals, safe air travel, safe workplaces, safe drugs, safe food, museums, national parks, I could go on for days you ignoramus.
Yes, if we don't pay massive tribute to Washington, all that goes away.![]()
Amazing to read that on a DC centric website.![]()
Taxes are at unprecedented lows, but yes. If we don't pay for it, it all goes away. Do you think things happen by magic? The government employs the people that make all those things happen. Please, for the sake of the country and everyone you know and love, take a civics class.
"We" don't pay for anything. We have half the country paying zero income taxes and constantly taking. You're welcome.
What a jerk. You are completely misrepresenting this.
Even those who don't pay
federal taxes because the are the ELDERLY, CHILDREN or make less than 25 grand a year pay SS, Medicare, gas, Alcohol and state and local taxes.
So climb down off your cross, persecuted one.

DP. I'm tired of money getting taken out of my pay check for health insurance subsidies for complete strangers.
The HC industry is holding this country hostage. We spend 17% of GDP on HC. The next closest countries, Germany and the UK spend 10% to 11%.
Most other countries spend 6% to 7%. Why are we an outlier? There's practically no competition here. Just govt writing checks to pharma, hospitals and medical establishments. And people paying hefty friggin' premiums.
And democrats are right at the front of the line saying we need to spend more and more. Enough already.
I think we all agree that our healthcare system is a disaster. In the short term, we're all going to be paying more out of pocket if those subsidies are canceled.
Since I actually WORK for a living, I'm going to be paying more in taxes from my pay check than health care costs.
That tends to happen when half the country is living off of complete strangers. I'm f'n sick of it.
You are likely living off smth government sponsored too. Don't delude yourself. Top employers in the USA are HEALTHCARE AND EDUCATION. Think about it for a minute. How does this happen that in 38 states (including high GDP states like NY, CA) Healthcare is a number 1 employer? Why do you think this is? It's because healthcare is a beneficiary of government spending. Some facilities or hospitals only exist and employ people because we have Medicare/Medicaid. Same with education that's beneficiary of student loans and foreign students. Private industry has been outsourcing (in-shore and offshore) for decades now, with government subsidizing wages for American workers. If you are a small business owner your customers only survive and patronize you because their jobs are subsidized. It's a house of cards.
Let that house of cards fall. It needs to fall. We're being systematically screwed by it.
