This would have teeth if public money was being used.

if you consider 1950s historical

1940's actually.

And yes, there was a lot of history that took place in the east wing, it was designed by a master architect and its materials and form of construction was unique for its time.

He's hilarious!

"When I first walked past the White House at age 7, my parents had to comfort me as my eyes welled up with tears and I, unable to raise my voice above a whisper, asked: “Mummy and daddy, why is there no giant, gaudy ballroom?”

I suppose it's healthier to laugh rather than cry rn.

Because you can't get your revenge on the libs for taking down confederate statues that way.

Senator Josh Hawley dismantles CNN’s narrative about President Trump’s White House renovation during a live interview.

When reporter Manu Raju asked: “What about just uprooting the—you know—this is an iconic building?”

@HawleyMO
exposed their faux outrage instantly:

“Manu, I will just say this. I made this point yesterday, that I hear all of a sudden from my liberal friends that they’re very concerned about our history.”

“Really?”

“These are the same people who tore down every statue they could get their hands on in the last four years.”

“Christopher Columbus, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt.”

“They didn’t have any concern for history then. Now all of a sudden, they’re like, oh, the facade of the East Wing is iconic.”

“Oh give me a break!”

“I mean, give me a break.”

Hawley's full of shit. Our Columbus, Jefferson and Roosevelt statues are just fine. He's thinking of the confederate statues.

Really? Columbus, Jefferson, and Roosevelt untouched?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equestrian_Statue_of_Theodore_Roosevelt_(New_York_City)

A google search will find many examples of the removal of Columbus statues. Here is just one:
https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/replica-toppled-columbus-statue-new-home-white-house

And, Thomas Jefferson removed, as well:
https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/24/us/thomas-jefferson-statue-removed

But, the East wing is "iconic?"

Stop. The primary issue is that he’s knocking down part of the White House without any checks or balances. No oversight into who is really paying for it. If he even has the money to pay for it, which is why Todd Blanche has been ordered to pick up a $230 million dollar check from DOJ.

They will dance, while you starve. It’s almost like the oligarchs are begging for a French style revolution.

What's to talk about? DHS will end up spending $7-8B on St Elizabeth when all is said and done. BTW - both of those projects had input from Congress and going through the normal chain of permitting, review by the National Capital Planning Commission, oversight by OIGs, etc.

I just find it interesting that Trump complained about the Fed renovation cost and then...there's this $300 million ballroom.

And, the FEDs are NOT paying for it.

Sure they aren't. And the ballroom was also not going to affect the existing White House.

It’s not. You know the White House is a different building right?

So now you guys are redefining the White House to exclude the wings? Is the Oval Office no longer part of the White House either?

A project that went through proper reviews and was funded by the Congress. What is your point?
