Why is this still active? Can private school parents not read or comprehend? This thread was for 2026 commitments, we are way past 26 D1 2 or 3. They are now past the top D1s of 2027s and into lower D1 and D2/3.

Here is how the 2026 season plays out.

1. SJC - clear frontrunner with sheer number of committs and talent on all ends of the field.

2. Landon - best coaching staff in the DC area. The 2026 class is weak compared to 25 and 24 classes.

3. GP - I'd rank the Hoyas above the Bears, but given it's a brand new coaching staff, its going to take them a year or two to figure it out.

4. Good Counsel - the Falcons will finally get over the hump with their 2026 class. Their starting 6 on the offensive side of the field is legit. Defense is suspect.

5. Bullis - the Bulldogs have the horses in the midfield and still have some good pieces on the defensive side of the ball to make every contest competitive.

HM: Paul VI (the Panthers bring back a good portion of last years's squad and should make some noise in the WCAC

Prep admissions has been turning a blind eye to several marquee recruits across various sports in recent years.

You mean the football commit who can't read or write or the other football commit who stole a credit card from another student and used it or the basketball players who come and go because they can't read or write. Not sure why you think that's a problem.

This is the funniest thing I have read all day!

When you look at the timing of when SJC ran the show in the DMV (2020 season- only 3 weeks of the season played, 2021, 2022) it kinda makes sense. Look around at other programs, and their coaching situations were in flux. There is no doubt, Speaks was also able to assemble some top-notch talent (primarily via a pipeline of players from the Annapolis region) during his early years.

1. After an incredible 15+ year run at Gonzaga, O'Neill was mentally checked out and stepped down after the 2021 season when the Eagles were horrendous that year. Jeff King was promoted to HC and had to assemble a new staff, all though he kept most coaches from the O'Neill era.

2. Good Counsel brought in Dane Smith in the summer of 2021. While the Falcons haven't been to the ship yet, the Falcons have slowly but surely been building a very strong program in Olney.

3. Landon was also a mess during covid. Healy (who had replaced HOF Coach Bordley) suddenly stepped down during the 2021 season. Current Head Coach McGettigan took the reigns in 2022 and assembled a new staff (added Kubick from G Prep, which was a tremendous hire and added a new defensive coordinator). Landon struggled in McGettigan's first two years (2022 and 2023) but has since dominated the DC area the past 2 seasons.

Fast forward to today, Prep has made an elite hire with Hilgartner, and he will slowly lure some players who might have ended up at St. Johns. Landon certainly has reloaded and stabilized since the coaching turmoil during the covid years. DeMatha hired a coach with heavy Annapolis ties and appears to be on the upswing. I don't see any reason why Good Counsel's program would lose any steam as long as Dane remains.

I do believe St Johns will remain a very good program, but I don't expect them to ever get back to the success they had in 2021 and 2022 years.

Good points but question on new GP coach luring talent away from other local programs.... there is a thought he's going to be pulling players from all over the country b/c of the boarding aspect - so maybe that means more local talent ends up at SJC, Landon, Gonzaga as DMV area players get squeezed out of Prep... possible?

Hilgartner was well known for getting upper school transfers and did so when GP's lsm got into trouble a couple of years ago and he transferred out of GP. The parents at McD never liked the practice but enjoyed the wins. If you think your kid is going to age his way into playing time at GP, his chances are now decreased.

100 percent agree.

While at McDonogh, it was well know he would hit the transfer portal to bring in upper class transfers to fill in holes.

Landon and SJC are already benefiting with Hilgy’s arrival.
