can parents from previous years with low gbrs, but in the centre, shed some light on how their kids are doing?

A thought. May be aap committee should advertise their criteria like TJ. 20%cogat verbal, 20% cogat nonverbal/nnat, 20% cogat quant, 20% teacher recommendation(or gbrs), 20%report card.

We're at Forest Edge, which is an AAP center. The two AAP classes have like 27 kids each (3rd grade). The general Ed 3rd grade classes have 18-19 each. Just because of how the numbers fall out.

20:44 here. I mean at our center, which is Mantua. Our grade is a little smaller than the others. 3rd grade is about 24/25 and 5th and 6th have 27ish.

Does anyone think that they expanded the number of kids they initially accepted this year, kept it generally the same or accepted less? Just curious if anyone knew the number in the pool from their base school vs. Number accepted.

We have no other test scores to submit as we're moving to FCPS from overseas where they do not do group testing like NNAT and COGAT. I would imagine that the review of a new entering student's file would be done by the same panel doing these reviews, or is that not the case?

I gess different deadlies for the new students coming from overseas?
If that's the initial aplication, I would say fairly good chance. GBRS of 13 is fairly good and FSIQ 126 is not bad, so overall fairly good chance.

I guess local Level IV school? In fact for my other kid, I was torn between Center and local Level IV because of that very reason - likely smaller size with more indivisualized attention. There are pros and cons. However in the end, I chose the Center.

Have you checked out GT classrooms these days? There aren't any with only 25 kids.

FWIW, my 4th grade has 21 kids in her class.

Looking back at the scores posted en masse (thank you, poster!!) I have to agree that 13 may not succeed on appeal with the average PRI. But 3 is in trouble too, because looking at the CogAT and the VCI, 3 has no evidence of verbal giftedness (valued highly by the AAP folks). That said, we are just reading tea leaves here, and no one really knows what WISC scores are required, and how they play against the GBRS. Unfortunately, that data was not released in the 2004-2005 report. Troll aside, this board has an opportunity to build up a useful base of information (we all have to come back and repost our WISC/GBRS scores with the final decisions!)

LOL this turned out to be from the troll. He/She is really getting low.
I thought that was strange. Their philosophy is to find as many as gifted kids they can, and space limitation is not a consideration when making selection. A reliable person here on the forum mentioned before that they are trying their best to be fair and find as many gifted kids.

True. Such families face tremendous challenges and sometimes agony to provide an educational fit for such kids. Well, if you have such a child, then you have such a child. That's why Davidson is a valuable place fore parents of such kids to provide supports to each other.

Some of the kids here are possibly smarter than yours.
They meet initial minimum requirement for 'Profoundly Gifted' program.

There are plenty of kids who aren't accepted into the GT program who are extremely bright and will go on to have great academic careers in HS and beyond. But basically you guys are saying that parents who keep appealing until they get the answer they like. LOL.

Nope. Just following the standard process for reasons.
Agree that there are plenty of kids who aren't accepted into the GT program who are extremely bright and will go on to have great academic careers in HS and beyond.
That has nothing to do with it.

It's like reading a journal of how some kids sit in the back row and cheat off each other on the SAT.

Until the child that is admitted on appeal is the 32nd kid in the class, so it adds a fourth class reducing the size to 25

Have you checked out GT classrooms these days? There aren't any with only 25 kids. They are overcrowded in part because they are forced to accept a few kids who were initially rejected but whose parents appealed because their egos were bruised.

Can't wait to see what some of you people will do when your children are rejected by multiple colleges.

I have no idea what you are talking about. My child is an AAP 3rd grader and her class has 24 students -- at a school that is notoriously overcrowded. I hope to God the troll's child is not going to our school -- people there are nice.
