This is the issue.

I will say it again. If you have questions about the process of becoming a Board Member reach out to the Board Chair and ask to speak with the chair of the Committee of Trustees. I'm sure they would welcome the opportunity to answer them. Lastly you do have a say with your vote, you can vote no for individuals put on the ballot.

Are you for real? I'm pretty sure they would not be interested in talking about this issue. And if the PP did bring up the issue of how nominations are done by current board members and that serves to be exclusionary for other members of the community, they would get on someone's sh*tlist pretty quickly.

+1 Especially if you have a child in certain grades that are loaded with board member families. I think the current 7th grade has 7 kids with board memes parents - this is out of a class of about 30!

Favored parents aren’t subject to little rules.

Isn’t the purpose of a cohort so your child has a small, restricted group to interact with? I assume that the kids are sleeping over with others in their cohort? Are you also up in arms about all the Burgundy kids playing on sports teams unmasked? FYI - There are a lot of them.

YIKES. This reopening won’t last.

Do not start this. I'm sure there are some people who have not perfectly followed the rules, including parents and teachers. I know of zero families who are traveling, but I know of at least one teacher who is. They are expceptions so stop trying to stir up trouble.

The teachers are all working their tails off and are doing an absoluely outstanding job. I keep in touch with a lot of families and they are all being extremely careful. I have heard of no one doing sleep overs or traveling. We aren't even doing playdates (not even masked and outdoors) with our kids' best friends because they aren't in the same cohorts.

Agreed.

And who cares if a parent is maskless inside their own car, as long as they don't get out and breathe on anyone? I wear a mask because carpool, but if it were just me and my kid, I might not!

PP again- I would prefer nominations weren’t an « inside job » ThAts is, nominated by existing board members, but most of the current board is there in service, not self-service.

Many, not all, board members worked incredibly long hours this summer. Regardless of whether we (me as community members & board members) see eye to eye on every issue, their job is the long term sustainability of the school guided by the philosophy of the school, and they are taking that seriously. The 30,000 foot view, so to speak. Clarify what you have to offer the board/ school and approach someone.

Yeah, I can’t imagine people are beating down their door to serve. I volunteer, or did previous to all this twice a month and could barely fit it in, I’m grateful someone wants to do it.

They just ask the parents who are very involved and show up a lot. I know because a couple of my friends were asked and passed. They were casually asked if they would accept a nomination in both cases my friends said no they weren't able to commit to do it. If you feel really strongly, don't you think you should be very involved in the school? To me that's a starting point.

This is not true. Long time, very visible volunteer here. Our family fits the profile above, as far as wealth and profession. We have never been approached about being on the board.

If you interested in participating on the Board I would encourage you to reach out to a Board member. This is the time they are actively looking for new Trustees.
