Why aren’t the builders forking over money and/or land for more schools?

City wastes too much money.

Agree, however the City of Rockville is not in charge or pays funding for MCPS schools. The county does that. Our city taxes go towards city needs.

Stop wasting taxpayers money and you'll find the $155M needed to build a new high school.

+1

Tax base is hardly an issue. City of Rockville wastes money on running grocery shops and then cries about building more apartments to increase tax base. This debate about increasing 120% for tax base or grocery shops etc seems weird.

Clueless leaders we have in our city.

That's why you'll be a candidate in the next city election, right?

Wow the only solution! You are pretty confident. It is doubtful that just after the BOE made diversity a priority they would move the most diverse part of the cluster out.

Some parents from TB advocating for 150% limit means their priority for education is not aligned with rest of RM cluster. TB can keep building once they are not part of RM cluster. It's a win win for all parties involved.

We need to simply vote out any council members sympathetic to this crazy idea. It's clear that they don't care about kids education at all.

Or take that and spend it where it's actually needed most.

There's this amazing thing called Google. All you need to do is type in search terms and it's amazing the things it turns up. For example, there was a discussion of this in the news not long ago.

https://wamu.org/story/18/10/31/in-the-race-for-montgomery-county-executive-candidates-are-divided-on-development/

I remember reading about this going in SS and Bethesda in the past. These giveaways are really not uncommon.

In the bill referred to in your link, developers who include at least 25% MPDUs in their projects (double the required percentage at the time) are exempt from impact fees. So developers have to figure out whether it's better for them, financially, to build more money-losing MPDUs or to pay the impact fees. How is this a giveaway to developers? Also, what alternative incentives would you propose for increasing the number of MPDUs, or do you think that affordable housing is not an issue?

Also, the issue here is the City of Rockville, which has its own planning and taxing authority. The bill does not apply to developments in the City of Rockville.

Hmmm... so build more MPDUs avoid the fee AND causes more overcrowding...
