What’s your message to Trump I’m putting this episode behind him?

I think Schumer should tell Frederica Wilson to shut the hell up, get off the TV, and get on with doing her job.

Interesting to listen to. This wife reacted differently.

Thanks for posting, pp.
It is a real shame this Congresswoman felt the need to go public with HER impression of his call. It was not her place nor was it appropriate.

He bumbles and bungles what he says all the time. IMO, his denial was him rejecting the way it was being characterized by the Congresswoman. She made it sound like he called the widow up to disrespect her and had bad intentions. I'm not making excuses. I'm saying what I think, based on what a sloppy and ineffective communicator he is.

It's good that he can do the right thing, at least some of the time.

Clearly Trump did not say the same thing to the Johnson family.

I am heartsick that my phone call caused you any grief. That was never my intention. Please forgive me for any stress it caused you and your family. Your husband La David is an American hero. He will forever be remember by myself and all Americans. He is the best of Us.

Your country will always be here for you and your family

DJ Trump

DJ Trump,

Understood. Thank you. And I'm sorry that Frederica Wilson dragged me and my family all over the media all week to make a political point, but that's where we are, I suppose. I just wanted to grieve in privacy. I never wanted any of this.

Mrs Johnson

Nope, the widow doesn't need to make any apologies for anything. WTF is wrong with you?

Do you not understand that "I'm sorry" in that context is the same as "I regret"? You're right - what would she be apologizing for?

People like PP are more upset that Trump is bad at performing consolation than they are about the actual soldiers' deaths.

I'm very upset at the "actual soldiers' deaths." If you were "actually" upset, you might know that they were "marines," not "soldiers."

They might not have died if they still had the support of the Chadian forces who were also fighting terrorists in the same region, until they pulled out on September 29 after Trump inexplicably included Chad in the most recent travel ban.

DP. We really have no idea. It was probably an ISIS offshoot that ambushed them after a larger meeting. But why did one get separated/left behind? Did France know and help out, were they just in the area, were they just doing air missions in the area?

And apparently we still don't know why they were there in the first place. Kelly said that he knows but won't tell. No one in Congress seems to know.

Exactly. And if nobody knows, how was Sgt. Johnson supposed to know what he signed up for?

Because of Trumps actions (or lack of) the only people suffering are the family. Why is that so hard to understand. Trump should be preforming if thats what it takes to console the widow of a US soldier.

You have no empathy for this gold-star family. Pathetic.

I wonder if they'd rather have empathy or their son back.

When we say we think they are being disrepectful, I've heard retorts that we are mad because they "don't know their place." Will you only be satisfied when black people can behave however atrociously they want to because, well....criticism of blacks is not allowed?

Congresswoman Wilson's behavior has been reprehensible, and her mocking, facetious attitude displayed this morning shows she thinks she's subjected to a different standard of conduct. And I am condemning her behavior, even though she's black. Sue me.

This may be a cultural issue. I don't mean black or white, I mean DC/Northeast/Mid-Atlantic and elsewhere, where colorful is not an insult and is tolerated or prized in a leader or politician.

But her behavior aside, she's correct. It is inappropriate for the president to attack her, to punch back 10 times harder.

Who's to say he punched back harder? She took a private moment and used it to ridicule the president, slinging mud for all the nation to see. He simply defended himself. (I know that flies in the face of liberal preferences, where you can sling mud and call names but conservatives have to STFU.)

I was quoting Trump and Melania, who said he punches back 10 times harder.

He attacked her. Or, as you say, defended himself. I believe that is inappropriate.

How Trumpers continue to claim a mantle of Christian virtue is beyond me. It's like they all read the Bible and conveniently skip the gospel. Is a Christianity without Christ still Christian?
