There are 2 things that jump out at me reading this thread: One, it's very NW & Montgomery County centric. Two, few posters from Virginia. I guess that's because most of what we know as NoVa now was only built starting in the 60s and really with gusto in the 80s. Where are the Arlington & Alexandria posters? Falls Church? Prince George's?

Wow, it is a shame what happened to a fine company like Kodak - but I sure am glad that Obama did not step in to bail them out because they failed to reinvent themselves. Maybe they would have been better off if their engineers had unionized after all!!

I know. They were auctioning off their patents without minimum bids. I guess they didn't see the future of digital cameras obliterating their primary business. Didn't they also have a chemical subdivision?

I remember when you only went to U street to buy a dime bag from guy off the street. I also remember driving past the hookers on 14th street at night during high school.

I grew up in Bethesda

-My first job was at Swensen's in the mall on the corner of Woodmont and Old Gtown, where the carousel and the carny mirrors were.
-My second job was at Woodies in the juniors dept.
-Garfinkels in Spring Valley, very classy entrance with awning.
-Whitman looked like a ratty old school. Now it looks like Nordstrom.

Westbard Shopping Center in the 1970's. The architecture has not changed much if at all but the stores have:
I attended the Art Linkletter school of dance.
Zippers, where one could buy Gloria Vanderbilt jeans.
Farrells, where they would bang the drums on your birthday. They had jars of gigantic jawbreakers that you had to break with a hammer to access the inner layer of grey gum. You could get a sundae that looked like a chocolate volcano.
-The Lad and Lassie shop and Giant are still there.

The only channels that featured children's programming were 5 and 20. I remember Captain 20 as a pseudo Star Trek character before the phased him out in the 80's and he had to host horror movie night and dress as Dracula.
I also remember they interrupted What's Happening to show footage of Reagan being shot. FWIW, I hated that show, but it was either that or Mighty Mouse on 5.

Same here!! We lived in Marlow Heights then. We had forts and tunnels, truly an unforgettable experience.

The big snow storm of 1966 when I could build a snow tunnel through my front yard that I could crawl through (I was 7).

Christmas break ski trips by bus to Madonna (Smugglers Notch), Sugarbush, and Killington. Celebrating New Years Eve on the bus on the way back - what a mistake! What were our parents thinking?
