Prep is dripping with cash from donors that could buy McDonough over and over. But sure, this McDonough school is big deal in those parts up north.

GP is looking less and less these days as a local Catholic school.

A school doesn't make a hire like this to just compete locally. This has to be to dominate locally and compete on a National level.

Hilgartner has nothing left to prove at McD or in the MIAA.

GP is almost certainly shelling out a lot of money.

Yes, that's one of the few rules the IAC has. That and that you cannot compete in sports if you turn 19 before the school year starts. (But that rule has been waived in cases including for Mormon missions.)

the IAC is a very wacky conference with zero leadership. Its operates on handshakes between the current ADs at each school to uphold the league rules / standards. While I believe the league now has a neutral commissioner, its purely for "show".

GP has money but McDonogh has a lot more. You don't need as many blue chip recruits to win in the IAC as you do in the MIAA. He had admissions slots at McDonogh.

Will be interesting to see how Hilgy operates in a scaled back lacrosse conference. Maybe he negotiated with Prep he is guaranteed 1 - 2 slots an admissions class.

All in in, a very good hire for Prep and will make the IAC a lot more competitive.
