As the mom of a 15 yr old high functioning autistic daughter, I have been utterly in knots over what happened in Nashville (my hometown). Audrey probably had a lifetime of loneliness and inability to form meaningful friendships and relationships. Not excusing this outrageous act of violence and destruction, but I feel like I have some insight (from my daughter's struggles). Just recently had her triennial IEP and it's been tough and she is working hard. But it's been a tough road for her.
I’m so sorry that you both are going through that. Seeing our kids struggle is one of the toughest things as a parent. No easy answers there. Hopefully these horrific situations can cause us as a country to seriously work toward finding solutions to the root causes of these issues. So many kids seem to be struggling these days. It is tragic.
Thank you so much.
And yes, if Remy is on the spectrum why on earth did Jen send her to Spain for a year? I studied abroad in college and it's a lot. It's great, but you really have to have your wits about you and manage your affairs and school and language. Remy was in a family situation which may have complicated things, too. I don't think it was a good idea AT ALL.
Slovenly kids- eh, I try to pick my battles.
