Sure. I don't feel that way, but you certainly can. I don't think most people who think she is full of herself actually know much about her or follow her career. I think a lot of it is just trying to tear her down out of sheer nastiness. The PP who dislikes Simone and Usain Bolt had a strong "uppity black" undertone in their post. So I think most of it is just hate with a good dose of racism and misogyny thrown in. And like typical mediocre white people, they love to use other black athletes against one another (horrible take comparing her to Michael Jordan) Gag.
I find her to be a great role model for young women and girls, and exceptionally brave. She is a good human which was obvious in how much time she spent nurturing Jordan during the qualifications right before she had to go on herself.

I always thought she was GOAT and a great role model too. My niece, a fairly high level youth gymnast (who will never be olympic level, but is being courted by a couple of colleges), though, told me last weekend SB is overly arrogant, not a team player and many gymnasts feel the same way. This was BEFORE she dropped out of any events. I texted her after I heard she'd dropped out, and my niece said something like "SEE, she does not care about her team...selfish!". I can see both sides of this, and actually sympathize more with her needing mental health help, but I thought I'd throw out that not all young gymnasts think she's a great role model.

My personal opinion is that athletes will be prone to setbacks when they are not 100% living for competing. Going on vacations with the boyfriend and doing all kinds of commercials gets in the way of remaining laser focused. It’s not a criticism. It’s how athletes perform at maximum ability (physically and mentally) regardless of ethnicity, race or nationality.

She slacked off, more obsessed with being a celebrity and making money. Olympics postponed a year didn’t help. Surprise surprise, she can't just show up and win. Olympic training cycle getting pushed out a year just makes it worse, you add in a year of limited training and competition and you're outside of your competitive mindset for longer periods than you're use to. The mental health excuse is bullshit, plain and simple. She got lost in the sauce, as they say.
