Actually, it was Terry Foley and he started FCV with FYPC due to lack of fields. Then CYA?..., Then SYA....again using them for fields. When FCV and SYA had a falling out, they secured new opened Evergreen for fields. Terry Foley then had a master plan to create a mega FCV club by bringing in Ashburn, Annandale, and South County. South County and Annandale subsequently pulled out. Ashburn remained which gives them access to Bles. Loudoun Soccer has a monopoly on almost all county fields.

Terry and Clyde are two important names in the creation of ECNL.

Terry sold the club Christian and Christian to TSJ.

I am not so sure Loudoun has a monopoly on all county fields. They’re losing permits due to their business decisions and disenchantment with unethical procedures.

Yeah- pretty sure they still try to poach ECNL players because they are not beholden to the ECNL rules that you cannot switch between ECNL clubs midseason.

And lots of recruiting of players from other clubs. Early days would have an FCV coach come to tournament games of our club and chat up parents of our best players. It was sleazy but no idea if anything like that happens any more.

The entire history of FCV is a series of "falling outs" and/or failed cooperative agreements including SYA, Ashburn, South County, Annandale, Loudoun and somewhere along the line ECNL. Their management has had a series of polarizing leaders: Terry, Christian, Bobby, and who knows who is in charge now.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Except they stayed IN Ashburn not WITH Ashburn. Ashburn didn't join FCV until about a year later (on the girls side). I know because my DD had to endure a year of "you better play better than that or you will be replaced by those awesome Ashburn girls". " If you all lose you will not be ECNL - only the Ashburn girls will" And on and on and on. Karma - not one Ashburn kid on her team. One or two on the younger team.

The long term goal is to take a similar model as is run at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. The financial backing is there right now its about slowly developing the model. They have a 10-15 year vision to build it to a mid Atlantic regional academy.

I’ve tried to get up to sleep on the FCV saga ... one thing I don’t understand ... I keep hearing about how FCV “burned bridges” when they apparently switched from ENCL to DA at some time in the past ... what actually happened? Why was it a “bridges burned” kind of thing and not just seen as a club making a switch to a different league that they thought would be a better fit for them?

Why all the anti-FCV bitterness? Did they go out and publicly trash their old league or violate some code of conduct or something? Honest question - what went down that caused so much acrimony?

Also, why is FCV so girls-focused? Is the sport that different between girls and boys that a club would be good at one but not the other? It seems that for FCV, boys soccer is an afterthought. How’d that happen?

My guess is yes. No way TSJ, which is all about profit being backed by a London based PE firm, will be continuing to pay for field space when they have an empty multimillion dollar state of the art facility.

Parents pay SJ for the program. If they let them use the turf and do not charge extra then they are losing potential revenue. I doubt the London PE firm cares about training schedules.

You don’t think they’re paying for the use of Evergreen?

That has nothing to do with pop’s statement. Try and keep up.

Hmm. If the TSJ field is empty and they can avoid paying for Evergreen, they will look at this. If the field is booked for revenue but they are still paying for evergreen, they will still look at what is the best net position for them, lose revenue and avoid paying evergreen vs take revenue and pay evergreen. The bigger question is why would TSJ buy FCV? For exposure only? I think not and a cut of the player fees probably doesn’t close the business case. Try to keep up simpleton.

On the other hand, are there any other clubs in the area that are for profit?

I doubt that field is empty with the amount of programs in multiple sports that would pay to use it in the dead of winter. The STJ cares about your wallet, not your children.

The hope FCV parents have for their club to return to ECNL is amazing. It’s never going to happen, but they’re so resolute. #respect to their #delusion
