I think it’s a step in the right direction. And I am very in favor of reopening.

Agreed. If all goes well, it will only be for two weeks and then we will move to full days. It's a good approach despite the inconvenience. It's far more convenient than trying to overse distance learning while working.

This is the issue.

They just ask the parents who are very involved and show up a lot. I know because a couple of my friends were asked and passed. They were casually asked if they would accept a nomination in both cases my friends said no they weren't able to commit to do it. If you feel really strongly, don't you think you should be very involved in the school? To me that's a starting point.

I will say it again. If you have questions about the process of becoming a Board Member reach out to the Board Chair and ask to speak with the chair of the Committee of Trustees. I'm sure they would welcome the opportunity to answer them. Lastly you do have a say with your vote, you can vote no for individuals put on the ballot.

This is our first year at Burgundy. While we were really hoping for a regular reopening right after Labor Day, we new there was no guarantee. We understand and appreciate their thoughtful and measured approach. Safety really does still need to be the priority while we continue to be in the middle of an unprecedented public health emergency. The teachers have done a great job with distance learning so far (much better than we've experienced in our local public schools).

The time on campus has also been really meaningful and well-organized. I think they are basically treating it as a dry run to get everyone acclimated. We're very much looking forward to easing in for more and hoping things remain safe to continue. But, if not, we understand there may be a need to revert back to virtual learning. We are in a pandemic and everyone deserves a little grace and patience, including schools, teachers, board members, etc. There is no roadmap for this new situation we are confronting.

So glad we took a pass on BFCDS even though it was purportedly the “better” school. It just did t seem that way when we visited. Too much reliance on the campus to sell the school. Murmurs on DCUM made us ask hard questions which went unanswered or poorly so. Dodged a bullet.

Same here, we had the exact same experience. But I understand there are many supporters, we just weren't feeling it at all. I think alot of people go there and ooh and ahh at the campus (which is great!) but don't look much past it. I am shocked that as much as they rely on their campus to promote their school they weren't able to figure out a way to make it happen. They of all schools should have been able to pull it off. We landed at a different school (this was several years ago) and have been been very happy. We have a friend who landed at BFCDS this year from public. I'm not sure they are overly impressed yet......

The school is reopening.

Their plan all along was to reopen in what they called a measured approach. The plan wasn't well received by many, including me, because we felt we had been lead to believe the school would reopen in early September, so when that didn't happen we didn't have faith they would open at all. DL has been amazing (as good as DL can be) and we are actually impressed with the school's reopening plan. Who can argue with a measured approach toward reopening? Our children have been on campus weekly, for short periods of time, and starting next week, that will increase.

The teachers have put a mind-boggling amount of work into this, as have leadership, other staff members, and the board. No one is perfect but they are pulling off something really great here and I've never been happier to be wrong.

All done secretly via nominations by current board members...very inside and based on "who's who" in the community.

Required qualifications:

- affluent
- white (unless your a minority that meets a minimum six figure salary requirement and have a law degree)
- you donate a substantial amount to the school
- you're somewhat self-absorbed or just purely clueless
- acceptable occupations - lawyer, corporate VP, or some high level government position
- combined with other board members, must not represent the majority of the population of the school and their needs
- most important of all - have had very little hands on experience volunteering at Burgundy and know every little about what their kid does at the school or what goes on with the campus and teachers and students and things that matter

They are a fine group.

Uh oh. We’ve got some serious hurt feelings in the BFCDS community

I’m just tired of seeing this beloved school slandered on here. The teachers and Board and admin are devoted and love the students and the school. They work their tushies off for their students and are doing the best they can. But to insult the Board like this (and I am not on the Board) is absolutely wrong.
