Since posters are claiming that Kobe should be exempt from being remembered for the sexual assault because -
- athletes, even married fathers, cheat
- groupies like to have sex with them and often try to extort them
- wives know and accept this deal because of the money
- he committed adultry not rape
Makes me realize that we should continue to talk about Kobe in this context, especially now that he is dead. Infact, his daughters should know what he was accused of and what he admitted to.. Why? Only then male athletes will change their behaviour. Kobe should be made an example of and his legacy should always be remembered along with this incident (adultry with battery or violent rape - you choose). Unless athletes are made aware that this inhumane beastial behaviour will not be pardoned and forgotten, they will never have any motivation to change. Kobe will not be forgiven and neither will any other athlete who dares to rape. Keep it in your pants and use your damn hands.

I love the stories that are coming out now about how he granted so many "make a wish" visits and how he wanted no PR for these visits. Says so much about him.

I am of the opinion that this was a miscommunication about consent. That she was legitimately likely scared given how rough he got and couldn't really speak up since his hands were on his neck. That he didn't realize until later that he had crossed a line.

In the first conversation with police at the hotel he clearly doesn't think he did anything wrong (is confused) and keeps using three main points to back this up - 1) they kissed and she asked for autographs afterwards, 2) she bent herself over the chair and put her foot up herself (the sex started consensually), and 3) he stopped when she verbalized the word no. He acknowledges he didn't ask her before getting rough and he says he did put his hands on her neck as that is how he likes to have sex.

I feel for her as I feel the aftermath and the attacks on her were completely wrong and unfair. She had a right to come forward and tell about her experience and he had a right to defend himself. She didn't disservice was the death threats, being shamed and blamed and all the hate she got after the fact. That likely ruined her life far more than the events she had filed the complaint about.

Sexual assault is more than a 'mistake' a 'mistake' is mailing your rent late or forgetting to carry the one. He hurt another human in a way that cannot be undone or fixed. That's not for nothing.
