Your country will always be here for you and your family

DJ Trump,

Understood. Thank you. And I'm sorry that Frederica Wilson dragged me and my family all over the media all week to make a political point, but that's where we are, I suppose. I just wanted to grieve in privacy. I never wanted any of this.

Mrs Johnson

Nope, the widow doesn't need to make any apologies for anything. WTF is wrong with you?

People like PP are more upset that Trump is bad at performing consolation than they are about the actual soldiers' deaths.

I'm very upset at the "actual soldiers' deaths." If you were "actually" upset, you might know that they were "marines," not "soldiers."

They might not have died if they still had the support of the Chadian forces who were also fighting terrorists in the same region, until they pulled out on September 29 after Trump inexplicably included Chad in the most recent travel ban.

What they are is dead.

And you listen to too many Maddow conspiracy theories. She's almost as bad as Alex Jones.

Nobody wants to address Ms Wilson's claim that Kelly was being a racist when he referred to her as "an empty barrel?" I'd like to hear someone agree with that assessment and explain why.

In fairness, we don't know very much yet. I was fighting mad about Benghazi (still am!) but reserving my judgement for this until we learn more. I am skeptical about using our forces in places like Niger however.

When we say we think they are being disrepectful, I've heard retorts that we are mad because they "don't know their place." Will you only be satisfied when black people can behave however atrociously they want to because, well....criticism of blacks is not allowed?

Congresswoman Wilson's behavior has been reprehensible, and her mocking, facetious attitude displayed this morning shows she thinks she's subjected to a different standard of conduct. And I am condemning her behavior, even though she's black. Sue me.

Please, this is a good time to focus on honoring the sacrifices of Gold Star families and those who mourn.

Yes, and that is why Wilson should have kept her trap shut.

Oh look, another conservative telling an outspoken woman to keep her trap shut. Quoting Paul, are we?

I notice that not a single Trump supporter here has commented on Wilson's close involvement in her community over the course of decades and the lives she has helped through her mentoring program and her outspokenness about helping black men avoid becoming statistics of violence and crime. Because you just want to keep pushing the narrative of a loud mouthed black elder who needs to keep her trap shut and pay obeisance to the master in the White House.

http://5000rolemodels.dadeschools.net/

Black elder? Still playing the race card, are we?

And as far as what she's done to help her community, I haven't followed her career (although apparently she's been good at grabbing taxpayer money to give to her constituents). Besides, it makes no difference in the instance we are discussing, which is how she took a private moment to try and shame the president. Shame on her!

AGAIN, she wasn't in Congress in 2009 when the funds were appropriated for the FBI field office so characterizing her as "good at grabbing taxpayer money to give to her constituents" is BS.

And her mentoring program, which way predates her service in Congress, is exactly the kind of thing that keeps underprivileged communities safe and successful. But you'd never acknowledge that, as much as you bitch about Chicago.

Not only was she not in congress when those funds were appropriated, but the amount of those funds was nearly ten times higher than what Kelly claimed. He doesn't know what he's talking about. He's the real empty barrel.

See Mr Trump, you just cant let it go. You want to keep torturing this family. They consider Ms Wilson a member of their family since she has known them for decades. She speaks for the family.

Neither of these letters would be written. Mrs. Johnson wouldn't write it because Frederica Wilson is an old family friend who obviously had approval to go public with the story, and Trump wouldn't write his because he has no class.

Mrs. Johnson,

Your husband made the ultimate sacrifice and this nation is grateful to him and his selfless service beyond words.

Please know that we keep you in our hearts and he will forever be an American hero.

It's not the substance of the conversation that is the issue. It's the Congresswoman's (and the media's) suggestion that Trump called with the intent of disrespecting her husband. And likely, in many people's minds, because the soldier was black.

I have not seen this inferred or suggested. The bottom line is that Trump called and WAS disrespectful. Whether he meant to or not, I highly doubt it was the intent.

He is just that much of a b00b.

I would like someone to post one story where Trump took the high road and was gracious without making a story all about the injustice to himself or "punching back 10 times harder." Just one.

Because he seems utterly incapable of it. The presidential thing for him to have said/done in response to Rep. Wilson's claim is "I am truly sorry for Mrs. Johnson's great loss. I grieve along with her and am very sorry that my phone call was not the comforting experience I intended it to be. We as a nation respect his service and feel gratitude for it." And then invite the family to the White House for tea with him and Melania.

That would have been the classy thing to do.

And to those who trot out "yeah well he constantly gets slammed" - seriously, if that's his excuse, he should never have run for president. If he can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

So, Trump supporters, come back and show us how many times he has graciously taken the high road. Because most presidents before him were able to do that with their critics. Seriously, did Obama ever get into a sling match with Rep. Joe "You Lie" Wilson? Doesn't anyone remember how Hillary invited Barbara Bush to the White House after BB called her a "name that rhymes with witch"?

ALL OF THIS. Why is this thread still going on and on? This is what should have been done. How can anyone say otherwise?

Why should we? The Congresswoman was on CNN this morning, keeping it alive by talking about it for 20 minutes while saying the family doesn't like it! Shouldn't both sides let it go?

The WH CoS used the podium with the presidential seal to lie and otherwise slander and impugn the ethics and integrity of a MoC. So, no. Trump drags everyone down to his level. Kelly needs to go. He's an embarrassment.

She impugns her own integrity and ethics. Not to mention her sense of fashion and ability to do her makeup. Looks like she applies it with a shovel. I hope she doesn't think she's any better than Trump in that regard.

So much for not denigrating someone for their perceived looks. Should Sarah Sanders be fair game again?

Again? When did she stop being fair game?

Kelly botched his defense? Were you listening to the same broadcast I was? Kelly was phenomenal. If you weren't moved by his speech (and he lost his own son, remember), then you are too "contaminated" by hatred of all things Trump to see things objectively.

Kelly was doing good until he decided to lay into Congresswoman Wilson with a fake story. He fvcked up big time, and eroded his credibility. There's nothing objective about a lie.

Exactly. Although the crap about how the corpses are handled was unnecessary IMHO. Kelly is now nothing more than another Trump enabler.
