So you don't understand why "continuity" is important.

To understand it you have to have some idea of how these IAC programs work or at least those at Landon and Prep.

If Urick were to come i and not understand how to use the network of players, alumni, ex-player parents and other supporters, he will be on an island and his tenure will be short, indeed. That doesn't have to include keeping the current assistants.

But he has to get Varsity, JV and Freshman coaches from somewhere. And if he brings in a whole bunch of non-Prep associated assistants, he'd better be successful quickly. You can bring in some outsiders, but he better stay connected.

His high school experience is not like what he will see at Prep. If he doesn't understand it he won't know how to leverage it.

Because it is the easy and comfortable thing to do. The parents are needier and less mature than the kids at Prep and keeping the assistants around makes sense. Fat chance of that happening. Paro will be there forever. Fegan is still there drawing a paycheck after 50 years+. Prep won the IAC Founders Cup last year as the best overall athletic program in the IAC.

Just like in the Govt. this was a group decision. Whether Urick succeeds or fails won't matter because everyone got to participate and no one was singularly responsible.

Urick is a credible selection. He certainly knows the game and many people within it through his own experiences and his dad's connections.

Given the apparent trajectory of his career to date, he should be highly-incented to do well.

Managing the game won't be a problem. Managing the parents and there sometimes over-blown expectations would be a challenge for anyone. But the biggest obstacle will be getting the support and agreement of the other internal campus factions like Admissions, FInancial Aid, Facilities, Budget, etc., etc.

Giblin had control over the largest feeder school of lacrosse players and and the support of many ex-players and alumni parents and players. And all he had to do was beat Landon. Urick has to compete in a much stronger IAC without many of the advantages the previous coach had.

His father, at Hobart and Georgetown was a highly-respected and well-liked figure based upon his success and reasonableness.

Urick will need some help. This isn't going to be easy.

His sad gave him an assistant coaching position for income to keep playing MLL lacrosee. Let's face it, the MLL is the equivalent of semi pro arena football income wise. Then he coached at UDC. So, UDC has a lacrosse team? This is an A+ Catholic version of a security blanket.

There was a reason he was coaching at UDC prior.
