Austin...why, oh why when I hear a child called that, I think of the wrestler, Stone Cold Steve Austin? Is that the kind of man you want your son to be like when he grows up? The real Austin is actually a pretty cool guy, but there are limits.

Next up: this is not a knock on religion or spirituality, but I cannot abide the people who dig into the pages of the bible for names...Caleb and Hezekiah are just two of many. Two of my siblings received common names in the book, but they were named for relatives, not prophets.

Naming after a relative is a fine thing, and I respect your wish to honor your culture. There's also that wish to give your child a cool name, one that stands out from the crowd, but think hard about it before you do it, folks. If you are naming a child because you didn't get a cool name when you were born, or it is some kind of reflection of what you want to project, think twice.
