DP. I’d have hugged her and handed her my lip gloss — saying that she could keep it.

I’m sure with Kate’s resources, the lip gloss could easily replaced. Meghan obviously meant well. We could deal with the hugging issue later. If my stepping back or sticking out my hand to shake, or whatever didn’t work, I’d tell Harry to tell Meghan to chill on the hugs.

I haven't posted since the beginning of this thread and just finished the audible book today. Harry presented 5 options, from nothing to changing to complete cut-off. Apparently he wanted a middle ground, the palace chose the middle ground. I really don't understand why he presented options that were unacceptable to him.

Where did the book say he proposed the five options? I went over that passage again and it says only that he, the Queen, Charles and William were presented with the five options at the Sandringham Summit. I took that to mean the palace had prepared the list of five possible options.

No, the letter he sent outlined one generally option for them to live abroad for part of the year (in or near a commonwealth country, where they would still be working for the queen but away from the British press. He also said generally that they were willing to make any sacrifices necessary, including giving up their titles, to ensure their safety. Continuing to have security was the one thing Harry insisted upon, but Elizabeth/Charles pulled all their security with zero notice.

Charles didn’t “pull” security with “zero notice.” First of all, Charles doesn’t control who gets security from the UK government. Harry and Meghan left the country without clarifying that the government could provide their security if they did not have diplomatic status. Harry assumed he would be entitled to UK security if he was living in foreign country, but he was not. If a working Royal visits a country, they get security provided both by the host country and the UK based on their status as a visiting dignitary. A member of the Royal family moving to LA is not that. Even if the government wanted to do it, the UK police has no jurisdiction in LA and the logistics of providing UK police officers 24/7 in LA would be just impossible, anyway. Harry thought Charles should pay personally for his private security, and my understanding is that Charles did so for a while. But why should Charles pay millions out of his pocket because Harry chooses to live in LA?

If they were willing to give up “anything” to ensure their safety, they would have stayed in Britain, where they had security provided by the UK government.

I think Harry got upset that they didn’t get their way and just jetted off in a huff, without realizing all of the implications of what they were doing. Now they’re mad because they’re experiencing the ramifications. Harry is an immature, entitled child.

DP. I think you’re misunderstanding what the book is about. This book isn’t about Harry’s marriage to Meghan. The book is about Harry’s experience of being the “spare” in the royal family. Random anecdotes about Meghan doing something wrong aren’t relevant to that. What is relevant is how he experienced his family’s reactions to Meghan. There are positive and negative anecdotes along those lines in the book - it’s not nearly so one-dimensional as the Harry and Meghan haters are making it out to be. But ultimately the book is about Harry’s evolution as a person and his place in his family, not about Meghan’s faults as a human being.
