It would be like blaming Bernie Madoff victims vs. Madoff, associates and hangers on. It’s natural for the parents to seek a better option for their children. On that last note, I think only a few of the private schools in DC are better than the DMV publics. Maret is one of them, but many private schools here are not worth the check you’re writing. The publics at least have a standard and curriculum and a great shot at excellent colleges

Then why are there so many private schools in the DMV Area, especially in DC and VA? I think there are a lot of great privates in the area. My kid is gifted in STEM, and at their most recent regional competition, almost all of the finalists and winners came from private schools. TJ was one of the public schools that was represented. Not all of the DMV publics are equally good. Yes, there are schools like TJ, but there are entrance requirements and standards. It’s not like any student will be able to enroll there. Not all publics in DC have a great shot at excellent colleges. Did you see the average AP scores for some of the public high schools?

July 9th. It’s messed up that those kids will probably end up in public school now at this point, unless they can find another school to accept them.

Those poor darlings

Definitely feel bad for the students and parents who are the receiving end of that bad news.

On another note, the actual building including the boarding facility is apparently pretty nice. It would offer a great opportunity for an already established private school to come in and open up boarding.

From the various legal filings, it looks like the annual rent for the building that WSS was contracted to pay (never mind that they didn't pay it!) was nearly $30 million. With such a large fixed cost, the economics of the school were shaky at best even if they had been able to get close to full enrollment. I suspect that will be the hurdle for anyone contemplating taking it over - at least to use as a school. This entire project / scheme was classic Whittle - huge expenditures and lavishly appointed facilities without much regard for their economic viability.

Yes - agree with that 100%.

As for the poster looking for someone to call for transcripts and assistance with transferring, a quick google search reveals CW's mobile without much difficulty. He needs to make good on all his empty promises....

It’s messed up that their parents sent them to a known-grifter’s dumpster fire in the first place.

+1,000. And kept them there until the bitter end despite multiple warning signs (not just from folks on this board but directly from the horse's mouth when CW and his minions began asking for donations to cover payroll and sandwiches for the boarders..).

Anyone that stayed after the December payroll fiasco or didn't at least immediately begin seeking an alternative for their child for the '22-23 school year can't really blame anyone else.

Apparently, it is hard or nearly impossible to get a transcript from Whittle. It is very messed up. This part can affect students transferring elsewhere. Whittle broke all of its promises. No one is working there anymore.

I heard that some former Whittle US kids went to the former Whittle campus a few days ago after the closure announcement. Of course, there was no one from Whittle working there anymore. However, maybe because there was no security, those kids were able to go inside. They saw consumed wine bottles on the desk of the last HoS, Manny. It must have been very upsetting for those kids.
