Are you that naive? A lot of undercover agents historically have led double lives, so this really means nothing to me. McConnell is an opportunist. He had a lot of power when Trump was elected in 2016. But by 2020, Trump was trying to bypass McConnell and run the party without him.

McConnell knows that if he can hamstring Trump, that his power in the party will increase significantly again and he will be one of the true leaders of the party. So, decreasing the power of Trump and his cronies within the party and within the governent will only enhance McConnells power and he's all for that.
